  • My second cruise on the Kat - ends in disaster

Same thing as yesterday - a gentle ride through town, through a few neighborhoods, just getting the feel of riding in traffic. Relaxing. Bike was running nicely. Highly enjoyable.

Get home, ride her into the garage. Turn off the engine etc. Then a smart idea comes into my head - why not put the center stand as 'down' as it will go, then rest all of my weight on the footstand part of the center stand, dismount, then finish the job.

Within a fraction of a second, the bike toppled over. No warning, no chance to react. Right onto the other side from the one I dropped it on Saturday. No damage though, and the bike almost started right up once I spent ten minutes figuring out how to get the huge thing upright again (which I just about managed - I think the thought of shame of getting my wife to help me gave me super strength or something).

I guess I just need to learn a little more respect for the bike's weight - it's way different from the little cruiser I just sold to get the Kat. But the good news is that at least I'm learning this respect in the privacy of my garage and not at the stop light at a busy intersection.

so your 2 for 2? Man you ought to spend some time pushing your bike around an empty parking lot to get used to the weight and centre of gravity.

That's actually a damn good idea. I'll do that this weekend - empty parking lot, good exercise pushing the thing around, putting it up on its center stand etc.

Sorry to hear about that - but thankfully your pride appears to be the thing damaged. Search for a thread here by Range on how to put the bike up on center stand. It's worth it's bandwidth in gold and once you get the hang of it, you can do it effortlessly.

              Now I'm humming that song.

One nice thing about the Givi side rack is using the frame as a conveinent handle grip for lifting up the Kat on the center stand.
