  • Street fighter tail

I've been lurking a few designs on eBay and I think Ill "fighterize" my bike with a tail.

So here's the plot, I have zero experience with what it will entail and zero taste in style.

If any one could tell me what I'm getting in to and what would work /look good?

The frame is chopped from the support joint.
I can have it cut & weilded but I need to know exactly what would need done.

    Chopped seat

I'm going to drop the nitrous and install the standard links.

The lower seat profile + r6 shock swap should provide me a Comfortable ride height providing that the front is lowered to the correct geometry from the 1" drop from the new shock.

Older picture before the b12 swap and exhaust change

As you can see I've cut my farings for a partial naked look, paint subject to change.

(right now I have to slide partially off my seat and lean to one side just to get my tip toes on the ground)-I've dumped her more than a couple of times because of this. I'm 5'2" >

I'm going for a aggressive partial fairing look, i want the motorcycle embodiment of a lady in a bikini.

I like the look of this.

You have a welder or use of? Pic a tail you like, get some properly sized pipe and plate steel. And build a frame to support the tail. Being that it will be "fighterized" no real need for major bracing to hold a passenger. Just tack the new frame tail together while you get the new tail frame perfected. Once everything is good, tail fits the frame and is square, finish up the welds. Use etching primer and frame paint. Install tail and legal goodies. I figure two days, no need to rush anything.

I don't have a weilder or understand on how to properly use one, I have a shop who can weild cheap.

I've got tool's to cut steel tubing.

some steel tubing from the hardware store should work right?

I want to keep the overall cost semi cheap, I care about better performance than looks, but this mismatched paint/rat look is starting to make it look like trash.

Bummer, that means they have to mod the tail on... They will have to measure cut weld fit, adjust frame diamentions reweled and fit the tail till it fits correctly. No, electrical tubing is too thin, plumbing is too thick and too heavy. DOM tubing is what I'd use. With 1/8 plate. I guess you could tape it together or some other means of holding it together while you get it to fit. Then have them weld it together. It's just going to be difficult to get it stay together while you assemble it. Better yet if it's off a production bike get the tail frame for it..

What's a decent price to pay some one to do this if I supply the tail?
Would $350 cover the tubing and labour

I have no idea. I can say certified welders charge a good penny. Just a welder is pretty much all over but, much cheaper. I'd just call around and get a ball park figure.

If you want it done cheap, it's gonna look like it was done cheap. Duct tape and JB Weld should do the trick.

I swear that and wd-40 are the only thing that our maintaince guy knows how to use at work.

90% of the time his repairs last 5 minutes and then go horribly wrong and they have to call in a specialist.

                --

How bad of an idea is it to cut the vertical support arms off and chop it down to the first brace that connects the two sides of the frame horizontally.

I could mount the tail to a plate and then the plate directly to the frame/tank with some steel brackets.

                I can't really explain it so here's a picture

I added a horizontal bar (blue) but I'm not sure if it is to close to the wheel/shock. I don't have the bike so I'm going off pictures.

Well I'm a life long artist, I can think of many ways to style the tail without spending much or using a welder.
I would not cut the subframe at all.
There are so many well done examples of cafe and fighter show bikes to get ideas from.
