  • Clutch issue

OK, I have read all the clutch adjustment threads. I even tried the manual.
That said here i go. This summer I installed a new clutch. I have been using Mobile syn 10w40 (motorcycle) oil. I have made the 1st adjust ment according to the manual. Since then I have tried the suggested method. Well everything has been going fine. It has about 1000 miles on the new clutch and oil. The other morning the clutch slipped. They passed couple morning the clutch has slipped, but no slipping when it gets hot.

So do I need to readjust the clutch or do you think that I need new clutch springs???

    Sorry for long post....

      That is interesting.

I would say yes to the adjustment, if you haven't already done it.

Are you abusive to the clutch, i.e. wheelies, burnouts to cause premuture wear?

When I did my clutch adjustment, I though everything was A-OK. In town it rode fine. Took it on the freeway on ramp one day and the clutch sliped badly. I was thinking I needed a new clutch, but I readjusted the clutch and now it's A-OK.

Not too abusive, burn out, no wheelies, heavy throttle sometimes to get on highway. I'll try a readjustment in the AM..

Try a new clutch cable, they are cheap and it may be hanging up and you not realizing it. New cable then re-adjust.

            re- adjust

usually a worn clutch will slip when hot.
a poorly adjusted clutch will slip when cold.

back off the adjuster a few turns then turn it in clockwise until you just feel resistance, stop, then back it off counter clockwise 1/3 of a turn.
then adjust the cable free play.
so you have 3/8' free play on the end of the lever.
