  • rescued by a Harley rider

on the last few miles on my way home the bike dies on me. The only way to keep it running was to give it full throttle while starting it. I was on the side of the road for all of 2 minutes when this guy Blue Bike Mike (harley dude) pulls up. He stayed with me while I tried to start it again with no luck. He went home to get his pick up and help me home. The bike was blowing out black smoke and barely running. The choke was fine not stuck we could see it moving back and fourth.

    Sowhere doI look first?????
I want to ride some more before it really gets cold

Check all the connections to the fuel petcock... Maybe the vacuum line isn't hooked up? If that's the case, I think it'd run on Prime.

The local liquer store... buy Mike a bottle of something to say thanks!

Then pull the tank, check all the hoses, all the cables, and replace the plugs (flat out). When you buy new plugs, buy at least two complete sets, because you'll probably need one set just to diagnostics (and the set that's in there is toast already).

What to check -- think air + fuel + spark = combustion
        New plugs for spark
        Battery voltage
Resistance at the distributors, plug wires
Fuel & air filters for blockage (check at fuel petcock or fuel filter for fuel flow)
fuel & vacuum lines for integrity
If it's not one of those, then there's a much longer list, but usually one of those will prove to be the problem.

        Good Luck!

Yeah the whole time my wife was telling me he wasn't coming back.
She is one of those half empty kinda girls. I told her that "bikers" are a whole different group of people and she shouldn't be so negative while I'm stranded. It's just the New York in her.

Anyway I'm going to pick up MORE plugs and get a few feet of hose and replace both the fuel and vacuum lines.
