I finally looked around in the gas tank, and the sending unit is definitely rusted out; anybody know where I can get one for a better price than the stealership???

Is there rust in the tank as well? If so, I would suggest using the electrolysis method to clean both. It may start working agian.

I was able to fix one of mine that way.

Used one's on ebay I'm sure can be had for cheaper, or from someone here on the boards.

Parts missing?... I don't see how only that component could be in such a condition, without there also being significan't rust or problems with the tank as well.

Unless the tank and sending unit are from 2 different bikes. I guess that could be possible. The PO swapped the tank, choose not to swap the sending unit.

Pics of it would be a great help, but I still say it's possible it could be salvaged. Don't throw it away if you do, and post some pics. If nothing else, I might be interested in trying to save it, and will cover shipping if your cool with that (if it looks like it can be).

alright, I put in a new sending unit today, and the fuel gauge works; the only question I have is...I had about a quarter tank it, and when I started the bike, it took about a minute for the gauge to read that it had that much; the needle slowly creeped up to the quarter tank mark...is that normal, or should it snap up to the level pretty quickly???
