  • Gidday from New Zealand

    Gidday everybody.

I'm Simon, from Upper Hutt, New Zealand.

    I'm 42, been riding 30 years and I've been a regular on www.kiwibiker.co.nz since 2003.

My main ride is a 1996 Suzuki RF900R which I've had for four years and put nearly 50,000 miles on.

    I've just picked up a 1985 pop-up Katana for $1.

It's a bit of a basket case, but nearly everything is there. It was deregistered in 1997 and parked in a garage, and not touched until I picked it up this week.

There's a lot of work ahead rebuilding this thing but I'm enjoying the challenge this little project will give me as I've always loved the Kats.

    Welcome to KR

Sounds like you made a great deal, those pop-ups are nice bikes.
Hope you can get it up and running soon.

    Any pics of the bike?

I've thrown one in the KR garage. Not much to look at to be honest. I've got a running blog on www.kiwibiker.co.nz but you probably have to register to view it.

Looks like a pop-up, been repainted blue, and there's surface rust on the frame, and the ally's pretty oxidised. I'm hoping some soda blasting will get it looking nice again so I can get some nice powder coating done.
