  • "Sliders" pants?

Purchased my first and only pair of riding pants a couple months ago, they are Sliders brand cargo pants. Kevlar lined knees, butt, and hips. All of the buttons stitching seems to be coming unraveled and they are starting to fall off. Found one this morning that I just pulled right off the pocket.

Otherwise, everything looks pretty solid. Guess I'm just concerned how these would perform in an actual slide. Anyone have any experience with these..good or bad?

    Purchased here...

I'm probably not going to return them, just have them sewn back on.

Well, if the stitching is coming out from normal use, it would probably last .0002 seconds in a crash.

That sucks dude! You paid good money for them as well. I would call the manufature and see if they will send you a free pair in the mail....

Not sure I'd trust a pair of pants to save the skin on my ***, if the buttons fall off just by looking at them. I'd be worried about the stitching throughout the rest of the pant.

ouch. hopefully you will never have to test them. I do not think I could trust them on the road if the stitching is coming undone.

It's time for a call to the manufacturer....

I've thoroughly inspected all the other stitching and it looks fine. I really like these pants otherwise, the material is heavy duty and they did not skimp in the areas lined with kevlar.

maybe the buttons are break away so you don't get injured on them in a slide?

You guys don't understand, or know about, something.

ALL buttons on modern garments, except ehe very rare ones that are hand-sewn on, will do that. A machine sews the buttons on with a continuous thread- if it comes untied (easy to do) and you pull on the threat, the whole thread will easily pull out and the button falls off.

Just get your self a thread and needle, and sew the dam things back on.

There should be a warrienty on the pants, my Swift Kevlar jeans came with a 2 year warrienty.

no matter stitchings are in good shape and no matter it has some kevlar on the critic places these pants wont work to save you.
kevlar is stitched or even maybe glued.or with some sort of special interlining it is ironed to stay at it's place.on a case of accident (not on the small ones but at a tough one).all the friction power will take them apart.
the other point is cotton gets really weak when it is wet.you may try it at home.just take a cotton yarn.you may take it from your jeans as well.wet the middle of it with your tongue.you will clearly see that the weakest part will be the wet part.that means if it is raining.you are riding like you dont have pants on.
when you burn a cotton yarn you may see that it is completely disappeared.and tahts why if you fall with your jeans on.it will be disappeared because of the frictions heat.
and at friction that weak cotton will be torn into pieces and your kevlar wont work to protect you.

dont worry about the stiches as stevieb says.just take a thread and a needle.

I did break down and secure the buttons on myself. Only 3 bloody fingers! Best I can describe it is that the button was held too far away when the machine stitched it on.

^^locco, are you saying wearing these pants for protection is pointless? It seems the kevlar-lined pants are pretty popular and I would at least expect it to protect my hide in med/low speed slide.

btw- I left feedback at compacc.com on their website, including my order # and contact info. I did not hear back from them, but still manage to get their weekly spam. Also, it appears that compacc is manufacturer of these as well.

@802er wearing those pants will be more secure than wearing a regular pants.but you should not compare them with real riding pants.
but if you gonna use them.read the washing instructions carefully.as these kind of fabrics are coated with some sort of chemical to make them stronger and semi-water proof.if you stucked to rain.dont dry them near a heater or dont do dumble drying.just let them dry normally.this is for all of your gear.if you dont, the chemicals life will be more shorter than usual.
finally i think those pants look cool but i dont think they will be strong enough.at friction cotton will be torn and kevlar will slip to somewhere else.
