  • 160 on the rear

Ok I have been reading all the posts threads about tiers and only having my 06 Kat for a week now. Is there any advantage to putting on 160 or is it mostly personal preference?

the main advantage to me is that Monsters, SV650, maybe Bandits have the 160 size tire so deals can be found on newish and used 1 season tires all over Craigslist, locally. however, i assure you, the pretty girls that want a ride can't tell the difference between a 150 and a 160

I happened to up mine to a 160 for the performance. The stock 150 Metzler just wasnt cutting it, and if im dumping a few bucks for a new one I might as well up it while i can. That in mind I cant say enough how much better the bike sticks. I couldnt be happier with the decision m'self!

I don't think the 150- 160 is what is making the bike stick better..I think that is your new tires.

I stayed at 150, and changed from the stock crapadamns to Diablo Strada's and the difference is amazing.
It doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you ride.

You can slightly change the effective gear ratio by playing with the rear tire size. A 160/60 is smaller diameter than the stock 150/70 and a 160/70 is significantly larger diameter. Less noticible would be the slight change in handling from the difference in rear ride height.

i use a 160 in da back cuz all da homies at Hooter's Bike Nites think it's da bomb-diggity. I like 2 keeps mines squared off on top cuz dat puts more rubber on da road whens I drag race. it also helps me wheelie good when its flat like dat. werd

I heard thru the grapevine that if we change the stock tire to a 160 we may actually LOSE traction due to the tire bubbling or something like that when we lean to maneuver. Correct me if this is wrong..it's just what I heard when I was talking to a few people about changing my tire to a 160 to get a little more "meat" on the pavement..

If it's not true and it wont affect the geometry of the bike..then I would get a 160 Diablo Strada...great tire..I would like to find this out cuz I have been going back and forth with thinking of getting a size up...just hesitant a little cuz I dont want to actually lose traction...or throw the bike off and eat gravel...

                          160/60 on my '01 750.

no change in handling detected, no change in speedo reading detected (checked via radar sign, 55 indicated, 55 read)

they were out of stock size, so i went up.

put 5K miles on it by now, still no probs.
