  • HID off of ebay

Not sure where to put up this question but has anyone installed the "HID" lights from ebay.

For the Price (under $15 shipped), how well do they work? And would I be wasting my time. I do have to trace back to find out why my low lights seem to work on a mind of their own, but that is for another day.

I got a pair similar on ebay and they are not hids. Hids require a ballast and stuff. These are just regular light bulbs that burn more of a white/blue color than normal yellow-ish. I found that they look cooler but are not as bright. I have to always use my high's now that i have those bulbs.

I saw those on the ebay the other day, and was trying to find in the fine print that they aren't actual HID's. I couldn't find anything. Seems pretty shady to me.

        Yes. Not real HID.

Bluer cooler is hotter on the temperature scale, but not as bright. The brightest headlights are in the 4300K (Kelvin) temperature range. 5000K+ will appear blue, and higher temperatures can appear purple.

Be sure to check the wattage so you don't burn the wiring.

That's kind of what I thought, especially with the blue tint to the glass. The thought of them being overall dimmer than stock me no likey

A true HID kit needs a ballast to operate properly....
                Something like this perhaps?

Higher wattage bulbs can be run, you just need to run them via a relay and draw the power directly from the battery so you don't damage the wiring

I was running the silverstars in my cruiser and even tried em in the wifes Ninja 250 and they burn out pretty fast.
                    Napa has a BP1210/H4 bulb thats 80/100
I think I paid like 8 bucks for it.

I have a link to a good HID place on my computer at home. I'll post it when I get off work

Looks like decent pricing to me. And for those that don't know, real HID bulbs look like the ones in the upper right corner of that link ( at least all those that I have seen personally)
