alright people, i've gotten a lot of ideas from all of....how about jackets?? i've seen a lot of people wearing this "heavy jackets" when riding...is there a brand out there that i should be looking at to buy...does it get hot (im in fort lauderdale so its hot down here)....im sure its a lot safer to ride wearing a jacket like this, but isnt a pain to be sweating you asses off with the helmet, jeans, a shirt and a jacket?? i get hot as it is, i can only imagine!!!!

The mesh jackets aren't bad. I can only comment on a Joe Rocket mesh a buddy let me borrow. I couldn't tell I had it on when I was at speed. At lights and in parking lots it gets a little warm.

My semi-perforated leather MotoGP Corkscrew jacket is very warm/hot most of the time, but

      Get a mesh/ perforated jacket.
I wear mine all summer here in Jacksonville.
Only feels warm when you stop.
      Feels cooler when moving.
      Lot's of good stuff here...

They are much cooler when your riding and they do get hot when you're sitting there.

I have a JR UFO jacket and when the liner is removed, it is cool beans! If you go down without protection, you will wish you had some protection on.

I crashed in a mesh jacket . I was unimpressed with how well it DIDN'T hold up and how much rash I STILL got . So far all I've had is a minor spill in the leather one , but I wouldn't go back to mesh . Just some food for thought .

                Wow,

I have a mesh jacket and thought it was okay. Can you fill me in on how your mesh jacket performed?
What used to scare me is now only mildly interesting

I agree with md86, it's a trade off. You'll be cool with mesh but it will never hold up in a crash like leather will.

Sure . It SEEMS the pads moved on me , so they did no good . And I ended up with some rash on my arms where the pads SHOULD have been , and some holes worn through the jacket , though it didn't slide down the road very far . This was a slow-speed get-off , too . Like 30-40mph range . Yeah , the jacket MAY not have been a perfect fit , but after seeing how easy it was to burn a hole right through the sleeve , I ain't impressed with mesh . I actually DO still have the jacket , too . It's hanging behind the leather one I ALWAYS wear .

i disagree i really feel my leather jacket ventilates extremely well. i have worn it for over 6 hours w/o feeling uncomfortable in it.

so, besides mesh jackets and leather jackets, is there another type of jacket out there i can get...im going to the store tomorrow and i will try to get one, i just want as much info as i can get...mesh is out of the question, not so popular here LOL...i dont have a leather jacket, so for me to go out and buy a leather jacket i'd rather spend the money on a "motorcycle" jacket.

there are textile jackets which are usually a fabric/leather combo.

If you do get a leather jacket make sure it is a motorcycle leather jacket and not a designer jacket. The "designer" jackets are made up of thinner less durable leather and do not have armor padding.

Any mesh jacket will be cooler than leather unless your leather jacket is perforated and has good vents. It ain't brain surgery, the mesh has big holes in it and leather doesn't, and even on a perforated leather jacket, the holes in the mesh are larger.
