  • kill switch problem

I have got myself one of the most annoying problems. Due to a slight lay-ing down of what is now my kat the kickstand got bent a little bit, not a whole lot, but enough for it to fall ever so slightly when I hit a bump or lean real hard to the left. Now when I mean ever so slightly thats what I mean, like 1/4-1/2 of an inch, not enough to be dangerous, but enough to allow the kill switch to spring out and the bike die. Really sucks when I'm on the highway and drop a gear to try to pass someone and the shock from the downshift kill the bike. Is there any way to eliminate the switch? or anyway to fix it without having to get a new bracket, or kickstand.

    Thanks in advance.

tried it with duck tape...heat from the motor loosened it up...I want to bypass the switch, but I need to know where and how so it dosen't look so ghetto. I plan on trading the bike in sometime in 2007. I want to upgrade a little bit.

There is a way to bypass the switch. I can't remember the exact way. Basically, just snip some wires, and twist together. I am sure someone will be able to tell you exactly what wires.

The safety switch is there for a reason. While you can short the circuit to over-ride the safety switch, it's much wiser to fix the problem -- usually replacing the kickstand springs will take care of the issue.
See this fiche file for more details on the individual parts involved:

Use a black zip tie and tie it tight.

Look at which way the bracket on the kickstand needs to be bent and take a pair of pliers and bend the tab so it makes good contact with the switch. If the kickstand is actually dropping though, go with Cyber's advice and replace the springs so it holds it up tight.

I'd opt for the re-bending that Court suggested. Things got out of alignment and need to be put back where they were for things to work.

You can also pick up another kickstand on eBay - I just got one recently for next to nothing.

New springs help too, as CP said.

If you must by-pass the circuit, you simply dis-connect the wires where they plug into the harness (just above the area - inside the rear of the left main fairing at the front of the left frame cover), then either plug in a bypass loo (piece of wire stuck into both terminals) or you cna cut the wires leading from the switch, and connect them together to make the loop.

BE AWARE: If you bypass the switch like this, DO NOT FORGET (all the time!) that you can then start this bike with the kick stand down!

Seen it done lots of times................
