  • Xena Disc Lock

Has anyone got a Xena disc lock alarm installed. If you do, your opinion would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I've got one. It's a disc lock. I wouldn't look at it for the alarm portion. The alarm goes off for about 15-20 seconds then stops. I rarely hear it inside my house and the bike sits right outside the front door.

Like Dejavu....didn't someone ask this question eailier last week? OH well..I use a Kryptonite one but I've seen the Xena ones and they are neat...the alarm is annoying but that's a good thing...

Yeah, as a disc lock it's fine, but as for the alarm, ehhh? Nice to have I guess, but not a huge help unless you're right beside the bike, ie. camping or something.

One thing about the alarm, you definately won't try and ride off with it still installed...

I just received mine yesterday and so far it seems like a nice solid lock. As noted by brooder the alarm is not that great but what should be expected for an alarm of its size and simplicity. Mine came with an extra set of batteries, carry case and three keys...

One thing I didn't mention goes along with ngilbert: You don't forget it's there. As soon as I move the front tire, it goes off. So there is that handy little peice of info...

I have one too and it gives me the peace of mind if I am to leave my bike outside overnight. They are reliable and no one will try and wheel it away with that thing on the disc!!!!! A good investment if you don't want to go to the expense of installing an alarm.

I only use it when I ride to Manhattan, which is rare (only for the easy parking). I got the Xena for two reasons: #1 the alarm wont let me forget and try and ride with it on and wreck #2 kids/morons wont sit on the bike flicking my throttle and make lip noises (burrrrrr BUUURRRR buuuuuur).

I find that the batteries die pretty quick if you leave them in the lock when its off, and they aint easy to remove. Or cheap to replace. Best prices are the bulk batteries from asia on ebay, but they dont seem to last long. If you buy them from Ace Hardware or Drugstores they're like $3.50 each and it takes 6 (or was it 8?). I finally found them in a 3 pack in Sears hardware for $5.25.

I've had my lock for over a year now and the batteries are still doing fine...

brood- How often do you use it? I keep mine in the case UNLOCKED and it sits around for two or three months at a time before I take it out and use it and half the time the batteries are dead. I always wondered if I left it locked when I'm not using it if the batteries would last longer.

I lock it when it's in the case. And it sits in my bike the whole time. It's even lasted the winter attached to my bike outside (under a carport).
