  • Katana parts hard to find {rant}

    Well, I've been wrenching, cleaning and buffing my new to me Kat and it's starting to look pretty new. Now when I bought the bike I knew it needed a little work and I'm cool with that cause I like wrenching, but holly cow are salvage parts hard to find or ridiculously over priced when I can find them for this thing. I did get some stuff off Ebay for really reasonable, but other things I'm after are getting bid up to almost new prices !!!!! Now if I had a Gixxer I could have had everything I needed to finish my baby and had it cheap ! What's up with that !!? Keep your fingers crossed for me, I could use some luck to get some riding in this year.

      First, what is it you need in terms of parts?
      Second, if you're not in a rush, virtually all parts prices (used) on eBay drop drastically once snow starts falling and even more-so mid-winter...

      I can't say I've had any problems finding any parts for a 98-06 Kat so far...

      Cheers

        Well there is a lot more totaled Gixxers lying around due to the number of squids that ride them. Most Katana riders are not squids thus wreck their bikes less often resulting in a lesser amount of parts.

          Hahaha, ya I kind of figured it had something to do with squids Hey, I'm a squid

          I'm not in a hurry to the point it won't be done right, just kinda hoped to get on it this year. Still trying to track down a good used front wheel or somewhere to get my damaged wheel fixed, front headlight assembly, a dash that's in better shape than mine and a lower right fairing. After that, I'm all good.

            The only part I had a problem finding was a center stand, that took about 5 phone calls. I wouldn't even call that difficult.

              I've been building my bike up, and have found everything with relative ease. Ebay has been fantastic for finding parts. So far I've even got a few for $0.99 like my rear right fairing. The left one cost me $4.25

              It's not as easy as the Gixxer, but by no means is it hard. Post up what you're looking for, maybe in parts section under WTB: and people might just have what you need lying around too.

                      So is your problem finding parts, or finding places to ship to Canada? Those are two different problems.

                      What are you looking for anyway?

                        If it makes you feel any better, i'm sitting in like on a 4.5 week backorder on the battery holder.

                          Sorry if this is not any help, but try Zdeno Cycle in Kitchener

                          They have the largest salvaged parts storage I have seen.

                            ya, I called Zdeno - I'm off work this week and next, so I'll make myself up a list with cross references to other models and years and see if I get any further. I know at the auto wreckers they can cross reference what you are looking for to see if they can grab it off another model or year of vehicle. Do the bike yards do that? While we are at it, does anyone know of any place in Ontario that repairs alloy MC wheels?

                              Finding the parts would be a good start, then I could worry about price and shipping to Canada. See a post or two above.
