  • Thats it its going to the shop!

Well yesterday outside my house it looked like a bike show.

Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki fanatics and their bikes - all with one goal getting the katana back on the road. (see previous posts..arghh)

Well long story short at around 9:30pm we had a good blue 5 inch flame come out my D&D and we all instantly threw in the towel.

We sat around with the glow of my laptop on Katriders.com in the warm jersey night with no luck. The reason im posting this is because if you like the car talk’s puzzler or other puzzles get your brain ready.
So the 02 katana 600cc acts flooded, and idles like a champ. At 3500rpm and more its bogs backfires, acts like too much fuel or not enough.

Here is what was done to fix the problem.
    New gas with multiple treatments
    Carb Cleaner
    4 new plugs
    New fuel filter
Removed carbs. Took 3 / 4 apart (one's bowl screws were about to strip)
Cleaned and inspected bowls, and made sure floats weren’t stuck.
Then using a compressor cleaned the fuel line from tank to carbs.

and when spraying a flammable directly in to the carbs it seems to run fine. Maybe Carb four is really screwed up but regardless its needs professional help!

Now I have NEVER brought any of my vehicles in my life to a shop, and have only heard the horror stories. (Anyone have a ball park on how much this will run me) unless its possessed .. !

And feel free to post what you think is wrong and if your right get some forum braggin rights.. lol
Thanks for all the help again - we were trying all those options..

is it possible that one of your valves are stuck open or broke and too much fuel is getting through? when is the last time you had the valves adjusted? one of my valves broke off but it was closed so the bike idled fine but was make a horific sound.

      Sync the carbs?

I'd go the other route first (replacement) -- find someone selling a set of good carbs for your bike on eBay and swap 'em out for what's on there now. See if that resolves the issue. If that still doesn't cut it, then turn to a shop -- BUT for god's sake, make sure it's a shop with a dyno & exhaust analyzer, so they don't go in circles scratching their heads.

Question: Did you check the gas tank for rust?

        Cheers,

Its funny i see 02 kats going on ebay for $1500, i should just buy a backup before a stealer gets $700 of my hard earned money.
