  • Help picking a new bike.

I am going to be purchasing a new bike on monday. I currently ride a dr 650se. I had a ninja 250 and a Z-1000 before this. I miss having a sportier bike so I am looking to get a new one and I would appreciate some advice on which one to get. I have it narrowed down to 3.

A 2005 katana 600 with 1,800 miles on it for $4,700, in good shape except it looks like it fell over on one side.

Next is a 2003 sv-1000s with 7,000 miles on it for $5,300 also in good shape and no real scratches from falling over or anything.

Finally a 2005 zzr 600 with 4,000 miles on it for $5,900 also in good shape, probably the cleanest of the three but with extra cost.

Can anyone give me a small comparison of the three compared to my z-1000 so I can know what to expect? Thanks in advance.

IF YOU LIKE THE LOOK AND FEEL OF THE SV1000, GO FOR THAT ONE. I LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS BUT THE SEAT IS SO DAM HARD.

Sounds like you've riden a bit, so you probably have a good idea about some of the relative benefits of each.

So I'm going to digress a bit....

I took an MSF Experienced Rider Course today offered by ABATE. The instructors all rode Harleys and I think after talking with them I understand much more about why people choose bikes which may help your decision.

All of the instructors had recently (this summer) been stranded by their Harleys, despite the fact they probably ride less than I do *and* one of them was a certified Harley mechanic. Although they talked extensively about the mechanical problems, vibration, leaks, etc. they really could have cared less about the problems with Harleys. They LOVED their Harleys.

So....which of the three bikes do you LOVE?

i have a Kat 750 and just recently bought a 2003 SV1000s, the SV definitely has more get up but the Kat is more comfortable. They are both great bikes. My buddy has a z-1000 that i have ridden and the SV is definitely more similar than the Kat. Sounds like there all good choices.

i broke my hand about the same time i got the SV, about 5 weeks ago, I am just now able to ride the bike, i havent been on a long ride yet so its hard to say much about it, its beautiful, sounds great and has alot of power that doesnt try to jump out from under you like a RR bike might. I plan on taking it to work a few times this week, i'll keep you informed. The Kat is a great bike hands down, you wouldnt go wrong with it either.

Couldn't ask for anything better than this. Looks sporty, lightweight, 127mph stock in 1/4 top speed of 159.7 mph, loves curves, the only bike I could find that was as comfortable, and a little more than my 97 Kat. I paid 5,100 in all for her. Not a blemish to be found!

                      zzr

I bought a 06 kat 600, my riding buddy bought a 06 zzr600. Ilove my bike but giving the chance i would trade the zzr hand down. imho

After sitting on all three of them again I finally decided on the katana. So far it is my favorite bike out of all the ones I have owned. Pics to come soon.

the 06 ZZR is essentially the 98-02 ZX6R...the previous ZZR's are down on HP...nice bike...but pretty much on par with the Kat 600.

The SV1K is a WHOLE OTHER BEAST!
