  • it happens...

thursday night, leaving work approximately 10:30pm, on the intersection of hwy PD and verona road. oncoming car took a left turn while i went straight. from what i can gather without the police report, she hits me on the side, my right side flies into the windshield (there i believe i lost consciousness), then i flip, fly, soar till i hit the ground on my right leg. i regained consciousness in the ambulance, but remember a few hazy details while on the ground (thanks Rebecca).

CT scan on my face, neck, spine, pelvis, and right leg. i was pretty much alert and orientated x3 moments after the crash. mood was happy, aka "happy to be alive." i also didn't want to freak out friends and family there. two coworkers came with me to the hospital, one rode with me, i talked with her jokingly (ex. "Hey Linda! i'm wearing oxygen! i've always wanted to see how it is!" linda replies, "How is it?" i respond, "not as what i thought." working at a nursing home, 25% of the residents wear oxygen).

once in the ER, they actually asked if i wanted a foley/catheter, i said very quickly, "I'LL PEE I'LL PEE!" small traces of microorganisms in the urine, which later wasn't a problem.

CT scan reports 4 fractures in the left side occipital bone, and MRI reports torn ACL and PCL on the right side. bruises in the pelvis area (everything works down there also) left hip, and small scratches on my left knee and both feet.

everyone was surprised and glad to see that i was in a good mood. i think that helped with everyones emotions. i just figured that i am thankful to be alive and not brain dead. i can always buy a new bike, exercise later, and other stuff. i did cry however after a lot of people stopped in to see me, just thought of how many people care.

i was in for two nights. first night i couldn't move since i had a neck and leg brace. they didn't want me to move much because they wanted to see how the spine would be in the morning. i probably got 2 hours of sleep, NA's coming in every hour to check my vitals. the morning and afternoon was nice, people coming in, phones calls, ect.

the workers there were excellent. one VERY hot RN who looked awfully familiar although hotter, but realized i was thinking of a porn star (Jordan Capri). the CNA's there have a lot of responsibility, which i look forward too. i'll be looking to find a job there.

i'm very thankful that i'm alive and well. friends and family who helped, stopped by, called, everything, i can't thank them enough.

    RIP '99 Kan-o-tuna.

    Gear worn:
    HLC cl-sp
A* Mesh airlfow jacket (yes it held up! upper body is fine)
target tshirt & polo khaki (cut up in ambulance)
    A* SMX airflow gloves
asics running shoes (which flew right off and can't be found...yet)

again, very thankful that i'm here to post. i'm not a religious man, but thank you God and the Angels watching over me.

You obviously weren't riding faster than you're angel.
Wow, glad you are relatively ok, and able to be positive about it, hope you heal up fast and get that hot nurse to make house calls.

Any word on if she is being charged, and you get some money for your bike?

Man, always sucks to hear of a fellow katrider fallen, but glad to hear you aren't torn up too bad.

Keep your spirits up, it will help in the healing process.

From what was described, it should be found to be her fault. Hope you get enough money to replace the bike.

Best wishes to you, and heal fast.

                      Greg

Damn cages! Glad you are in one peice and recovering. Always feels crappy when a fellow rider gets clipped. Hope you and the RN find each other.

Take care of yourself and heal up!

BTW Verona and Cty PD - is that just south of the beltline on 151? I used to live near Beaver Dam and went to college in Platteville, always had to take the beltline to 151.
