  • I mangled myself on the bike today...

First serious injury involving a bike in about 20 years. I can't believe it -- it all happened so fast, and I realize I was just being too stupid... And it's all my fault (single rider accident) -- humiliatingly so. The fact that I was only wearing shorts & a tshirt (barefoot) didn't help at all either. So much for AGATT...

After pulling another all-nighter, I went out, fired her up and rocked her forward off the centerstand, then started duck-walking her backwards off my porch. The drop to the sidewalk is about 3 - 4", and as the backwheel dropped down to the sidewalk, the sidestand came down on my big toe (still on the porch) with some serious force, biting me like a rabied rottweiler with a vengence. #@$*%#%$ that hurt! I hadn't realized that the sidestand was down when I started duckwalking backwards. No, I didn't drop it -- I just leaned it over and got my toe out, angry at myself about the shear stupidity of the mistake.

I'll confess that I was only moving the bike about 15 feet, taking it into the living room to strip it down and do some wiring, a few more installations in the luxury of the A/C rather than in the dank humidity of Florida's summer... so I didn't think gearing up fully was really important.

Fricken shifter toe is various shades of late-dusk now. I just hope it's 100% again by the rally, or I'm going to be putting along in a single gear most of the time...

    Feeling really stupid.

Marc that has got to be painful!! But I imagine it's going to hurt twice as much tomorrow. Get the ice bucket and the Advil ready. Did you just smash the toe or got the nail, too? Losing the nail would just compound the pain. Man, hurts just thinking about it.

Man Cyber that really sucks man. I am kinda glad to read that is all that happened though. From the title, I was a little afraid to read it.

I know you know all the things to do to take care of it, so I won't type it.

Just as I was having a good day by getting out of my cast.

Just mashed the F out of the first segment past the foot (i.e. - the one furthest from the nail), leaving a sidestand-shaped imprint filling the whole space between the joints and tearing up a bit of surface flesh). All in all, not too much of a PIA, as long as I don't contract those muscles. In retrospect, I got really lucky that it hit between the joints instead of atop of a joint. Stupid little piggy...

              Cheers,

                  What a squid!

Just kidding. Sorry to hear about your injury. Hopefully, it will heal faster than your pride. I'm just glad it wasn't more serious. I read the word "mangled" and thought the worst.

                        ouch!

You really don't think how bad a toe hurts until you smash it. I bet that suckers going to be throbbing the next day. To bad it wasn't football season. All day with the foot up and football helps the pain go away. You must not be married. Put your bike in the living room?
                        Nice Kat!
