I have been busy working on the Kat while I am unable to ride. Some of you have caught my posts, and a couple of these I haven't mentioned to anyone. So, here is how I have stayed busy sitting at home.
1) Swapped out gauges to the 750 gauges. Wiring had to be swapped around, as the plugs were not the same. I had to make a couple of "jumper" wires to change end terminal types, but in the end everything works and none of the wiring harnesses were butchered. Now, I can change back to the 600 gauges if I ever need to.
P.S. JAX is a GREAT guy to deal with!! The gauges would not have happened without him.
2) After 2 years of having this bike, I finally made the needed changes to make my solo cowl fit smooth with the taillight. It always stuck up higher because of the fenders. Thanks to a Black & Decker "Lil Mouse" I was able to shave it down so it fits like it should.
3) The dark red top of the taillight has always bothered me on the 600's, so I decided to see what it would look like painted white. The shade is a little off, but I think it is close enough most people won't notice.
4) Performed a tune up on the girl and readjusted the air/fuel mixture for this Alaska altitude. Of course followed by a re-synching of the carbs. I don't think I have heard her run this smooth since I brought her home.
All things considered, I think I have made a pretty good use of my time while recovering from hernia surgery, and having my hand in a cast. Let me know what you think.
