  • loser tried to steal my 'Kat

I don't post much, but I have to let you guy's know about this. Wed I parked my kat outside if randolph mall here in NC. I went out to check on it (i had parked it in the yellow stripes and I was kind of worried about a ticket) and it was gone. I think "No way someone took it". I go back in the mall to ask security where the heck my bike is...no one in sight. I go back out to the parking lot and figure I'll just look around a bit, maybe someone was playing a joke on me and moved it. As I walk thru the parked cars, i see my bike...WTF!! Some loser had moved it beside a big Explorer and was working on the damn CUT wiring harness apparently trying to hot wire it. He had wrecked the ignition, and dropped it in the process of moving it ( I guess). He had a helmet on, and a knife in his hand. I told him to hold it right there, and he threatend to CUT me. OK, first you F#$k up my baby, and now you are going to hurt me? I do not think so. I'm only about 5'7", and I'm 38...but I keep in good shape and I have trained in several martial arts...all combat related; not sport stuff (not that there's anything wroooong with that ). Anyway, he left on a backboard with a neckbrace on...I'm sure I at least broke his right eyesocket, and he will probably have neck pain for a few weeks. Not it that fixes my bike. Oh well....at least it's raining so i couldn't ride anyway. I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for not just letting him go. I should have, it would have been the rational thing to do. But I swear I had an "out of body" experience. From the point where he threatened to cut me...I just leapt at him. I don't want to portray myself as a bad a$$, If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing then yeah, im dangerous but I thought you guy's would appreciate that this loser-bike-stealing-lowlife-wannabe tough guy got the surprise of his life.

What's really sad about the dumbass is that you cannot successfully hot wire a 98+ Kat. The factory has wired into the ignition a tiny capacitor that kills the ignition after less than a minute if the bike is run without a key.................unlike the old Kats.

If you need help fixing your Kat - I'm pretty sure I have spare parts here for a 98+ ignition. I used to have 6 or 8 spares, and kept all the parts.

    And..............I'm in K'ville!

    I'll PM you..................

Oh, and WTG - If I had been there I would have helped you by kicking him a few times. I can't stand a thief...........
I've owned over 70 Katanas - you think I know anything about them?
Is there such a thing as TOO MANY BIKES?
Can you go TOO FAST on a bike?

awesome job on protecting the kat. What else could you do really when you have that much adrenaline going through ya starting from the point when you couldnt find it where you parked it.

Thanks Special$K$. I've gotta talk to the insurance people before I start the repair. I think I can get them to foot the bill, but i have to get it to a local shop and then they will send out an adjuster and go from there. First time in 3 years owning the kat that I need a trailer. And I agree, he wasn't exactly a mental gymnast.

Sorry to hear about your run in, but at least you managed to find the bike before he took off or damaged it even more.

I seriously doubt on any bike site you'd get flamed for what you did .

NICE. I say protect your own. And don't worry about the cuts - no one leaves a knife fight without getting cut. I would say that you made out very well.

When he pulled the knife, it was fait accompli -- drop his ass by any method available, IMHO. You did the right thing. Make sure you talk to the state (county?) prosecutor's office to see if you can recover damages when it goes to trial. Also get in touch with the local news paper and TV news and hype up the story of him pulling the knife -- with the publicity, he'll get the max penalty; without it, he might just get probation if his record is clean.

Good luck with the insurance company -- hope your deductible isn't too high.

                            Cheers,
