Nothing at all wrong with drag racing a katana, I raced one a few years back. His set-up however is like.. well.. put it this way, to run wheelie bars you need to be pushing at least 160hp or so. For them to work you need to be able carry the front wheel about 60 ft and gradually come off them (wheelie bars) from that point on. If not you slam the wheelie bars and pogo stick off them and slam the front end to the ground. This then unloads the rear suspension, breaks the tire loose and you spin. To boot he put a 8" over swing arm on it (on a already long 57.5" wheel base). Dude I know people pushing over 200 hp who don't stretch it that far WITHOUT WHEELIE BARS. Combining a wheelie bar set-up with 8" over arm is rediculous over kill for just about any bike, never mind a 95 hp katana. It also requires a completly clutch set-up too. It's kinda like inviting a friend out for a stroll around your local park. He shows up with a triple gortex mt. everest jacket, trecking poles and half a dozen sharpas carrying supplies that would sustain a small village. It's that kinda funny

So yeah, maybe once in a while that guy stuck a take off better than he was prepared for and caught a huge head wind and started flipping over backwards... maybe... or he just thought it would look cool, like a pack of Buddhists.

Well, he certainly wasn't winning any pro classes. HOWEVER, with a slick on the back, and streched like that, I'm willing to bet it would be dead consistant, which would make it a great bracket racer. Along with the katana's not-very-sporty steering head angle, and you have a safe, consistant, and reliable drag strip toy.
The wheelie bars are funny, though. There's no possible way he could hold it on the bars. Strapping the front end will stop a kat from standing up on even the hardest launch. Those bars would just make it very hard to park.Any and all statements by Loudnlow7484 are merely his own opinions, and not necessarily the opinion of Katriders.com.
