  • night riding tip

when riding at night and your face shield becomes peppered with those little bugs that have sacrificed themselves to the light, do not, under any circumstance,
WIPE THEM OFF WITH YOUR GLOVE!!!!!
the result of this action will be smeared bug guts all over your shield and zero visibility! just a friendly tip from your friendly neighborhood dumbarse.

Always keep a couple of baby wipes in my jacket pocket when riding at night. Great for cleaning off the face shield on the go. Just make sure the wipes aren't super wet when you put them in your pocket...

I found a product called Flents Wipe 'N Clear at Costco. They're individually packed wipes that are anti fog lens cleaners. I keep a stash in my tank bag and really appreciate having something that's safe (wont scratch) for wiping my glasses and shield.

I keep Motorex VisoClean wipes under my seat. They have a wet cloth for cleaning and a dry one for final wipe down.

BTW according to the article in the most recent issue of Motorcyclist wiping bug guts across your helmet is horrible for it. The shells are abrasive and should be soaked and softened before wiping them away.

Open up the visor, spit as hard as you can, and quickly close the visor. The spit will soak them damn bugs. Wipe off with back of glove and you're golden.

                      Nope !, No Joke.
                      :P
That goopy Green or Yellow and sometimes red slime, is an acidic enzyme, that the insects need to digest their food.

It's important to clean your windscreen and helmet sheild at the end of your ride. Leaving it on repeatedly will definately accelerate the deterioration of your screen.

I never remove the bugs from my helmet after riding. I let them accumulate until I have enough for a good cup of tea. then I remove them, put them in a coffee strainer and make a pot of "bug tea". it has lots of protien. It doesn't taste too great, but it is very healthy for you.
I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

Flip, Bob is correct the enzymes are acidic and will reduce the life of your shield and the helmets finish. Plus think about the bugs body. it is an exoskeleton. It is not to say that wiping a away a bug will leave a big gouge in your visor, but over time the tiny scratches will cause a haze.
