The dogbone makes the connection between the
linkage and the swing arm. The swing arms connected to the.. Dog bone.. the dogbones connected to the..
Linkage.. the linkage is connected to the rear shock..
Now hear the word of the progressive-rate-mono-shck-rear-suspension!!

So to change the height of the rear.
The shock is by and large one size not adjustable..
The Swing arm would need to be machined and welded.
The link is a hunk of solid alloy..
The dogbone is an easily changed easily (cheaply)
made part that effect the height..
    Longer ones lower the suspension.
    Shorter ones raise it..

Officially they are rear suspension support links (or some such), but are more commonly called dogbones because of their shape. Changes in their length changes the angle the rear shock moves in respect to the swingarm, which alters the rear ride height (shorter=higher rear, longer=shorter rear). The approximate change ratio is about 2.2:1 (i.e. a change of 1" of dogbone length will raise the rear of the bike by about 2.2").

The two blue items in this image:
