  • Commuters?

For those of you who use your bike for commuting, do you wear full gear?

I'd like the protection of wearing full gear (Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, Pants, Boots) but it's already a hassle enough of bringing my helmet, jacket, gloves, and reflective vest (required to wear it to ride on the AF Base that I work at).

I was just wonding who wears thier full gear to work?

I wear full gear to work. I'm travelling in heavy traffic and often in less that optimum weather. The risk of an accident is often greater during my commutes

My approach is to wear my work pants underneath my overpants and a leather jacket over my shirt. I keep a pair of jackets and set of shoes at work.

I also wear all my gear (boots, jacket, pants over work pants, gloves, helmet) to work and change when there. Guess it depends on what you have to wear when at work.

I have to wear the pants and over shirt they supplied me. I've considered over pants but I'm not too sure about boots. Yeah I know they're protective but does it really seem like a hassle to have to change?

My commute is 2.5 miles straight shot.

I leave my apt complex, go straight a little over 2 miles and turn into the AF Base and my workplace is not to far from the gate

              I have a 65 km (about 40 miles) commute on a 3 lane highway.

I wear full gear but I'm lucky that I can get away with shorts and a T-shirt at work. All I do is leave a pair of sneakers at work to change into once there.

Since the lockers at work might fit a pair of shoes I also leave all my gear at my work station.

                +1. My situation exactly.

The thing I'm worried about though is my road of travel is sometimes called "Rebecca Raceway" (Rebbeca Lane) the speed limit straight out of my apt complex is 55 and then it drops to 50 about halfway there. Most of the time people go 60mph+. So the way I see it, it's almost just about but not quite highway-ish like travel.

If my commute was just through slower business roads then, yeah I'd stick with jacket, helmet, gloves. But as I said, it seems like highway travel and I'd hate to go down and not have enough protection (like everyone else lol)

Trust me.....the pain of carrying your helmet into work is WELL worth the safety it provides on the road. I commute 96 miles roundtrip and wear my gear year round.

I don't commute everyday (deal with the wife) but when I do use the bike it's full gear (helmet, gloves, 2 piece leathers, boots) I then change at the office. I do 30 miles each way on the 5 freeway in L.A. so it's pretty crazy, lane splitting is a must so the more protection the better.

full gear cause i always hit the twisties on the way home (and sometimes the way there). But I wear shorts and t-shirt underneath. sometimes I'll just leave my pants and boots on and work in those (if I'll only be there for a couple hours). I have a pretty nice tailbag that fits a pair of shoes, my hat, and lunch. I just unbuckle it, and carry it in with me.

Full gear for commuting 95% of the time, the rest of the time I have everything but the pants on.

I am the worst with wearing gear. I always wear a helmet, But sometimes the helmet I wear is only a Skid Lid. I do like my full face but in heavy traffic it can get very hot even if the face is partly open. I usually only wear jeans and sometimes shorts. I wear sneakers not boots. And if its hot I dont always wear my leather coat. (unarmored). But there is something to be said for the proper gear. I had a buddy who totalled his R6 at over 80 mph and he walked away. So gearing up is a good idea.
