Speed is blamed in fatal wreck
MONROE A Union County man died Wednesday night in a single vehicle accident near his home.
According to the report from the N.C. Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Jimmy Scott Adams, of Old Camden Road, was killed when he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving near the intersection of N.C. 200 and Old Camden Road.
Trooper B.M. Kral said Adams was traveling roughly 80 mph on a Suzuki Katana 750 when he lost control of his vehicle as he came to a turn.
“It appears he basically lost control as he came to the turn and went off the road into an embank-ment,” Kral said.
Kral said that alcohol is suspected in the accident.

      Never, ever, ever ride drunk.

I adhere to a strict rule of not even one beer when on the bike. It removes any temptation and no one will ever be able to say, "He crashed because he was drinking."

Poor fella. That's about 20 miles from me.

Exactly. If for no other reason, people should never even have one drink before riding just to avoid anyone being able to say this.

I personally wont ride after one beer because I feel that I lose a slight bit of motor skills. I am not a lightweight, and I can drink with the best of them, but I am smart enough to know that 1 beer still causes a slight loss in bodily control. If something happens where I have to make some sort of evasive maneuver, I'll need all the motor skills that I can get.

its always sad to hear of a fellow rider biting it in an accident. i hate riding past bars at night and seeing 50 bikes parked out front and knowing that each one of them has probably been drinking and will plan on riding home later that night. thats why i never ever will drink and ride.

Your main two advantages on a bike are A)Maneuverability and B)Your reflexes. Would you ride with your tires severely underinflated intentionally? May as well if you decide to drink and drive. In both scenarios, you are decreasing your control over your bike. Why give away your only advantages?

I also hate riding by a bar and seeing a bunch of bikes outside. I make every effort to be safely home before the sun goes down to have my beers.

100% agree on this. I will never have a drink if I know i am gonna ride or ride if I have had a drink.... not even 1 beer.

It's unfortunate that he died, especially since it could have been avoided. His family has my condolences.

Very sad to hear that a rider is down. Thoughts and prayers out to his family.

I completely agree with not drinking AT ALL before a ride (or in my case, a drive since I don't have my bike yet) Two of my stepsisters were killed about 10 years ago by a drunk driver. You will NEVER catch me drinking if I know I'm gonna drive. DD here every time.

I wish the best for his family......

I am always astonished at riders that drink and ride. It amazes me when my friends do this. I REFUSE to drink and ride. One of my best friends drinks then rides, and gets very stupid while riding. He becomes invincible and tries burnouts, wheelies, and insists on going 140 everywhere! It has gotten to the point that I WILL NOT ride with him if we are going anywhere that serves alcohol.

I just don't understand how people do this!!! What is it that makes them believe this is okay? They must just be wired wrong!!!

My prayers have been sent to his family. As for me I too think that this was a waste of life. Sometimes these things happen for reasons . Maybe so everyone who reads this in the forum will think twice before they do this themselves. I agree also that a few beers or even one does impair motor skills and judgement a bit. Sometimes that is all that it takes...
I wouldn't be so paranoid... if everyone wasn't out to get me.
