  • Completed the MSF course!

I'm ready to start practicing on my new kat 750 tomorrow. Passed the course with flying colors today, not ready to rock and roll yet...but feel quite a bit more comfortable!

See you all on the road.........

Congrats!!!! Glad to see that you did the right thing by going to the MSF instead of learning to ride "underground".

      Way to go Josh

The MSF course is a great way to learn. Just take it slow and easy while you get comfortable riding out on the roads and in traffic if you havent done it much yet. The speed and confidence will come in time, just have fun, thats the main thing.

I enjoyed my course as well. You`re gonna be very comfortable on your bike in no time. I finished my weekend course and picked up my new bike 3 days later on a Wednesday. On Thursday I went on a 400 km road trip with a friend and felt like the bike was made for me

                    Congrats!

I, too, finished the course today. After the first day I went home and used what I already learned and was able to ride my Ninja250 around the neighborhood quite comfortably. I put a good 13 miles on my bike after the first day just around the block LoL!

Ace, I never ridden before I took this course and I was able to learn alot. Within just 12 hours total of riding, I went from barley able to move to swerving objects. I also never drove a manual car so I had absolutely no cordination what so ever to make sure to use the clutch with ease, rolling the thottle, shifting up/down, and/or breaking all at the same time.

For the skills test at the end of the course, we had to do the following.

Objective 1: Make two U-turns within the corresponding box without crossing the lines.
Objective 2: After leaving the U-Turn box, shift to 2nd, speed up to atleast 20mph and swerve to the right through the cones.
Objective 3: After leaving the starting point, shift to 2nd, speed up to atleast 20mph. After your front tire passes the placed cones, come to a quick stop in the shortest distance possible while maintaining control.
Objective 4: After leaving the starting point, shift to 2nd, and take the 90 degreen turn, speed up and take the 135 degree turn using the proper "Outside-Inside-Outside" line without breaking through the lines.

I had alot of trouble doing the quickstops and I ended up locking up my rear tire and got points added. He also said I looked down at the lines when taking the 135 degree turn which also gave me points.

So the lower your score the better, and I ended with 11 points. He then said to pass you must have 10 points or less to pass ... CRAP! 1 POINT! ... So here I am all depressed that I spent all this money on the course and failed by 1 freakin point. "Just Kidding! You need atleast 20 points or less to pass" BAH!

For the class we used 2006 GZ250's

I honestly thought a 250cc bike would be small for me and according to all my friends that ride 600+'s that I would get bored with it within the first couple days.

Actually, I almost fell off the GZ250 twice due to the torque of the bike. Then when I got home, I started riding my Ninja250 and it got me around pretty quick. I'm also a pretty big guy, 6'2'' 250-ish.

So that goes to show never underestimate the bike.

                    Hope that helped

wow, you guys can miss alot in texas. sounds exactly the same class as i had up here, but they said you can only miss 14 points. a classmate got 15 off and failed. the only place i lost points was the big white box where you had to do the "S" or, two U turns. i went outisde the lines and put my foot down (wasn't going fast enough) but did perfect on the rest. those bikes were fun i thought

I reccomend the class to anyone that hasn't taken it. I've done it twice.

The first time I took it I got a 92 on the written, and 8 points on the road test. I completed it again a few weeks ago and got a 98 on the written, and 1 point on the road test (inside-outside-inside, not outside-inside-outside dang they talk fast sometimes...).

i honeslty would enjoy taking the class again if it didnt cost 295$ :-\ instead i think i'll take the basic rider course 2, or intermediate class next. it's a 1 day thing, and they go over all sorts of cool stuff. i think the instructor said 1 handed slalom (sp?) anyways, all around it was good fun. i think it depends alot on how much fun the instructors make it too. our class was split into 2, and i met the other instructors after the class was over, and the one guy seemed nice enough but really quiet, the other lady seemed kinda edgy, and the head hancho he was actually down right rude. almost nasty kind of... our instructors told us if we wanted to cheer our classmates on, some good encouragement never hurt, and 1/2 way through the head hancho came up and said stop that your distracting them! they're never gonna pass if you keep doing that! i didnt throw the instructors in front of the bus, but i said we cheered for 1/2 the class already if we dont cheer for them then they're gonna think they're doing something wrong, or they didnt do good... to be honest, after i got done w/the swerve part of the test and i rode past the rest of the class who hadn't taken it yet, they were very encouraging, saying "good job" and "almost their" "keep it up" made me feel a little more relaxed.
