  • sore fingers... glove problem?

I'm still new to riding, and have a pair of Joe Rocket gloves. They have the carbon fiber (or what looks like carbon fiber anyway) over the knuckles.

I've started noticing lately that the fingers on my left hand are sore, specifically my index and pinky. The soreness comes when i squeeze my finger all the way in, making a fist or anything else with that general movement. I can't really tell if it's the joints in my fingers that are sore, or something else.

My gloves are fairly tight, when I first got them new, they seemed almost uncomfortable and would leave impression lines on my hands after riding from where the stitches are.

My right hand does not hurt at all.

So, what i'm trying to figure out is, are my gloves the problem? Or is it the increased clutch activity in my left hand that's leaving my fingers sore? When I clutch, I use all four fingers.

    Thanks all!

it reallly can be either issue. I have a pair of gloves that are tight and if I cinch the wrist strap too much I notice a loss of sensation after awhile. Squeezing a tight cliutch can also cause fatigue. Are you new to riding?

      Maybe...

      1. You are using new muscles since you haven't had to clutch anything better. Once your finger muscles get used to the strain they'll be fine.

      2. You are gripping the left bar to tight (white-knuckle syndrome) ...loosen your grip while riding. Your hands should "rest" on the grips...not strangle them.

      3. Try another pair of gloves and see if it helps.

Yeah, if I get out of practice riding I tend to put too much weight on my hands / wrists when I start riding more again. Resting your hands on the grips and using your much larger back muscles to steer the bike will surely lessen / eliminate wrist and hand fatigue. It just takes practice - you'll get the hang of it. Try another pair of gloves too, can't hurt to see if there's a difference.

If you have not adjusted your lever position, They might be too high. Roll them down a bit and you may find that your hands are in a more relaxed position.

When I first got my JR Phoenix gloves, where the CF protection is around the knuckles like you are describing, my hands hurt alittle too and the CF pads were digging into my knuckles something fierce. Even though I soaked them in water and then wore them around the house to help break them in, it still hurt for alittle till they conformed to my hands. Now I don't even notice they are even there half the time anymore.

i have icon Ti gloves. the tips of my thumbs get sore cause the glove fits really tight in the thumbs. i have to adjust my grip often to keep the soreness away. id say try new gloves a size bigger and see if it helps or not.
