  • Why do people still ride on stock tires???

i rode on my stock tires for 4months until i had the money and found the set i wanted.

I have been going to the local dealer to look for a new bike (used) for months and almost 90% of all the bikes i've seen there, up to 6years old, have had the ORIGINAL STOCK or replaced STOCK tires. whats with people.

I still have the stock tires on my kat, I never knew they were so bad for cornering. when I rode my friend GSXR I realice I was not a bad rider and found out my tirew wasn't doing their job.

I think for most riders out there, the Katana was their first or second bike. Until they get "seasoned" as being a rider, they are not aware to the importance of aftermarket tires and consider it to be money not worth spending.

that about sums it up. Besides look at half the bikes for sale, up here I see bikes like mine with under 10K on them all the time for sale.

Hold up...the Dunlop D220's on my bike work just fine. I just bought a new set and got 11,500 miles on the originals. Now, if you're talking about those Maca-craps on the 600's I understand, but from what i've seen, the 750 comes with much better tires stock.

Yup! My feelings exactly. However, when they wear out I'm gonna upgrade.

My bike is still has the stock tires after 6500 miles. I didn't change them simply beacuse I feel it is waste of resources to throw them away. I am this kind of guy who like to use things until it break or become un-usable anymore.

The good news is I have a new set of Stradas setting on my garage waiting to be mounted after I do the valve adjustement and carb sync.

I was in the same boat. I could not throw away a good set of tires and I did not want to deal with the headache of trying to sell the. I ended up putting on Stradas and I have been really happy with them.

Well, I only had the Macadams on my bike for 600 miles before I switched. I knew the stock tires were crap and that I needed a better set, but it killed me to replace what were essentially brand new tires. Seeing > $400 fly outta my pocket and virtually new tires fly off my bike is like a kick in the crotch.

Also, I think most folks who are new to motorcycling don't realize the dramatic change a good set of tires will have on the handling of a bike. They see tires with good tread so they just keep riding on them. Therefore, they dont spend the $$$ to replace something that doesn't "need" replacing.

I don't replace the tires on my car until I need them - a new rider might have the same mentality when it comes to their bike.

Why are you looking at a new bike anyway? Nothing beats a yellow Kat, unless you're thinking about a Gixxer I'm glad the '06 doesn't come in yellow 'cause if it did I'd be tempted to make a change too

The answer is in the first line of your post:

                    "until I had the money"

After most people buy a bike, they don't have the cash to run out and buy tires when there's two already on there.

I had stock Dunlop 205s and can honestly say these tires do not inspire confidence. However, they last a long time, depending on the type of riding you do. My old set had over 11,000km on them and they nearly had all the tread. I'm certain I could put 30,000km on them.

BTW, I'm assuming the 750 come stock with Dunlop 205 in the US. Does anyone else know better?

                          Depends on the year.

Good point, and you certainly dont want to go through the dealer to buy your tires and have them stick it ya on the price of the tires and mounting as well. So many times it is a combination of not being to afford new tires right off the bat, as well as some having the thought process of kansaskat and using them till they wear out just because. Until you put on a nice set of pilots, sportechs, avons or whatever your aftermarket tire preference you dont fully appreciate how much of a difference good tires do for you and your bike.

After buying the Kat, I had to take it in for the 500 mile service. It was a lot of money to start with. I have the stradas ordered. I will finally get to see just how bad the stock tires are.
