When you are out riding, because you never know when you will have a accident, and the EMT's are gona remove your pants!
As a couple of you know, I went down yesterday. I was out in the boonies of Alabama, looking for some good roads (And yes, I did find some).
I was turning from one road, onto another, both were 2 lane roads. There was no trafic, and I figured I could take the corner at a pretty good lean angle. As I started to come thorugh, I seen that the lane was COVERED with sand/gravel mix, same color as the road. I straitend up immeidately, and started to apply the rbeaks, aiming for the grass on the side of the road to really stop in.
I started going through the gravel crap, applying a little rear break, and more front break. I must have been hitting the front break a bit to hard, or harder than I though, because once my front tire came out of the gravel, it bit into the pavement, and I started going over the handlebars.
My chest hit the windsheild, and I remember hearing plastic cracking. Somehow, I managed to not go all the way over. I am not sure if the rear came up at all or not. I then started to come back down to the seat (I don't know if my feet were on the pegs or not) and the bike started to tip to the left, and started to go all the way over... Not sure what happened next, but the bike is on the ground, the engine revved up, then died out. And I am standing there, dazed a bit, and both legs kinda wobbily.
I finally get my bearings, and lift the bike, see some fluid on the ground. Not sure if it is gas or oil. Start walking the bike to across the street where there is a gas station, and notice my left leg is injured, feels like a sprain, but to soon to be sure. Get it over in the lot, and start checking things out.
3rd eye plate is going to need to be replaced. It is cracked at the top. Top of the side fairings where the windscreen bolts into is a little bent, because when I went forward, it pushed the windscreen out, and the windscreen popped out of its rubber gromets, I had the center mount for the winscreen bolt in though rather than have that plastic rivet holding it in. Windscreen is ok, just needs to be remounted. The top of the side fairings may be able t be fixed with some pressure, or washers... gota play with it later...
Left side mirror is rashed, but held on, and didn't break. No levers broke. Small rash on the plastics where than thin peice of plastic runs between the 2 vent holes on the side (Below the Katana emblam) Didn't seem that i had any rash on the Katana Emblam itself which really surprised me. The engine casing on the left side is scuffed up, but no leaks, so no need to JB Weld anything.
As for me, I am on crutches for a bit. Seems I either pulled a few muscles right around my knee (And no, not my bad knee thank god) as it is soar in both the outside part of my calf, and a bit above the knee itself. Nothing major though, I have had worse sprains living in MN and slipping on ice and stuff. Also slightly sprained my left wrist. Have some soreness in my chest to the touch from where I hit the front.
I was not able to ride home bcause I could not bend my knee without major pain. Luckily, I had phone service, and was able to call my brother in law. He ride it home, I drove the car.
All apears fine with the bike, no wobbles in the front end at all, bike is running good. Just pisses me off that it happened in the first place.
So, wear clean undwear, because you never know what is gona happen.
And look for a new colored Kat this winter. I am prolly just gona plastic weld, or seal the crack in the 3rd eye plate from behind for now, put the crack will be noticiable from the front. I will either purchase a new one, or actually fix and fill it once I strip the bike down for the new paint job. Not sure what I am going to do about the top of the side fairings, but I think it to is fixable. I am prolly going to upgrade to the NRC covers as well.
As for the wreck happening. I don't think I was riding to hard at all. Had that gravel not been there, I would have been able to continue my line, and make the turn just fine. I really wasn't expecting such raod debri out there like that though.
So be careful out there riding!! I will try to get some pics and post them up later today or tommarrow.
