  • Frame Sliders 2006 Katana

Well went to getmy new Katana from the dealership today, 25 days ago when I ordered it I asked them to install the frame sliders for me. I arrive today and the guy says he can not get them... I said what. I know I am in Canada but this sound stupid.

So are there really no frame sliders yet for an 06?

There are no frame sliders for any katana. You'll have to do a completely custom install to get them to work.

General concensus is that on the Kat, frame sliders cause more damage than they prevent because you either have to offset them, which increases rotational torque on the frame if you drop it, or you have to drill the frame and cut the fairings, which weakens the frame significantly.

If you're just worried about protecting your fairings, try bolting either some stubby frame slider pucks or some skateboard wheels directly on the outside. It'll serve basically the same purpose in that it'll protect the plastic in case of a standing or slow moving drop, but won't do you any good in a real crash.

You can fabricate or buy brackets that can bolt onto the frame and then attach the frame sliders to the bracket to help minimize the possibility of a bent frame in the event you go down. The kats mainfairings on each side are all one unit and are pretty stable..yes you'll end up scratching them and they may crack depending on how the bike hits the ground but its definately alot cheaper than ending up with a bent frame due to drilled sliders.

Check parts forum, BRAUNSTEIN82 has created brackets for sliders and sells them. The reviews Ive seen from them so far are pretty decent.

                no drilling

From what I see in the pics of BRAUNSTEIN82 slider brackets there is no drilling required? that is even better

I think I will speak to a couple of the KAT owners I know in my area and see who else want s some.

                thanks

I bought a set of Braunstein82 frame slider brackets. In my opinion, they'll help protect the bike in a low speed or accidently bike drop. They'll certainly will pay for themselves if that happens.

I just use empty bear cans glued to my fairings. I tried full ones, but it was just to tempting to take a drink....

But they only work for as long as they still have pressure in them! Have you ever crushed a beer-can? Try it with two cans -- one empty and one full and see how much more force is required for the full one

                          Cheers,

I know that it takes quite a bit of force for both empty and full. My head has had the bruises and knots on it to prove it!
