I had to work today but didn't have to go in until noon. the weather was nice enough that I decided to ride the Kat. on the way home I was going down Franklin road about 50 mph in the left lane behind an suv. I check the mirror and head check the right lane to see if I can pass. when I turn back around the guy is STOPPED DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME! it was one of those moments when your brain says oh shiate this is it! through dumb luck and instinct (or was it unbelievable skill?) I jerk the bike right and grab both brakes, causing the rear wheel to skid. it was this slide that actually saved me from hitting the suv. the lean of the bike and the tire sliding around put me at an angle to just miss the right rear corner. then I commit the cardinal sin of releasing the rear brake wich immediately tossed the bike upright and sent me into a wobble (is this a tank slapper? ) she wobbled back and forth about four times and straightened herself out in time for me to keep her on the road. this was by far the scariest incident I have ever had on the bike. I thought I was crashed for sure. there was a guy behind me that saw the whole thing. he said the guy just slammed on the brakes and he could not believe I didn't hit him. he praised my ability (little did he know I don't have very much) and said he was glad I was ok. just when you get comfortable on the bike something like this happens to snap you back into reality. be careful and alert out there people things happen fast.

Good job not low siding it, or freezing up and eating the back of that suv.
That's skill when you do it without even thinking about it.
Glad you're ok!

Welcome to the world of those of us who have had a tank slapper and kept her rubber side down ! Congrats on saving yourself and bike from potentially a real ugly situation.
Did the SUV appear to be slowing down at all or have their brake lights on when you looked back to check ur surroundings? Just curious if they had to make an emergency stop due to traffic or debris of if they were just not paying attention to the road in front of them and had to brake suddenly.

they weren't slowing down when I looked back. I had ridden behind them for a couple of miles and there appeared to be kids wrestling in the back seat. I don't know if the driver was distracted by that and then had to panic stop or was turning left. there was no blinker. I didnt see the suv again after the incident just the guy that was behind us.
