  • modding on a budget

most of us (especially the married ones) have a limited budget for mods. what things have you done on the cheap? I know the mesh mod is probably the cheapest thing you could do, but what other things have you done without spending a lot of money? I check with ebay regularly (just scored a tinted windscreen ) the $100 wileyco has been my favorite mod. I also painted my grab bar black. new grips were cheap. someone had already chopped the shovel so I did not have to do that. the only things I have planned for now are some chrome bar ends and having some chrome gsxf decals made. and I'll probably go with the gold chain when I order my chain and sprocket set.

Has anyone ever cut the airbox on a pre98 (I don't know what the 98+'s look like) to see if it helps any? I always wanted to chop that damn thing open and see if it helps as much as I think it might.
    Less weight is more power!!

ignition advancer, new windscreen, mesh mod, K&N air/oil filter , new gel grips, CF bar ends and clutch/brake levers, solo cowl, just to name a quick few.

and you never know what you'll find on ebay for a song if you really hunt for it.

Remove pin-strippng, gel hand grips, K&N air/oil filter, replaced turn signals and mirrors.

Wildcat says the truth about eBay, you have to hunt. It may take awhile but eventually you will find it.
I don't know how fast my bike goes, I've never stopped to find out.

No, I'm pretty sure you need that as is..

All my mods have been on the cheap...
I think my most expensive one was the SS brake lines..
Everything else was under $40.. or free..

I'd say it depends on what you're hoping to accomplish . Modding just for the sake of making something different seems foolish to me . But if you're looking to make it more comfortable/utilitarian/faster/prettier , THEN we'll talk .

The for sale section here is also great . I picked up clear fronts signals, clear taillight and rear signals, tinted screen and a cowl all from "those guys" that upgraded to triumphs lol.

                  tuning on the cheap.

5 degree advancer. then buy the washer kit at radio shack and shim the needle - cut the stock slide spring down 1". tighten up the slack in the throttle cables. remove the slag from the headers and adjust the valves then resync your carbs.
