I came up on a turn
and I thought I saw a sign for 55mph. That means I could take it at 110, (which it what I had done for the past 20 miles) so that's how fast I was going. Turns out the turn was a 30mph
decreasing radius turn. I was already into the turn so I tried to hit the brakes. Too late, the front brakes were bringing me back up out
of the turn and there was no way I could stop in time so I tried to take the turn. I kept leaning it until
there was just not more room to lean. The last thing I remember was pushing the bike away so I wasn't caught under
it. I hit the road going around 90 mph and slid off the side of the road, down hill and was very violently stopped and spun around
by a barbed wire fence. When I opened my eyes the bike was about 2 feet from me. And the first thing I said was...Crap my fairing is cracked....
Amazingly the sliders on my bike protected most of it.
I have a cracked air intake, broken shift lever and bent shift linkage, crack on the bottom of the main fairing and a grouned down
but still intact engine cover and a busted off turn signal (which I was replacing anyway). Turns out, I walked away with a ground down steel
toe boot, a very painfull sprain in my hand and a tear on my leather jacket where the fence got ahold of me.
A cop showed up and tried to give me a ticket because somebody said they saw us pass her at very high speed down the road.
While it's true that we did pass this lady at about 140mph about 10 miles back, I know nobody witnessed the accident so
I got off with nothing...except some experience learned the hard way.
