  • trip to the twisties, ive got my flame suit on.

todays adventure in the twisties. so this is what happened on my way to the twisties. the flamage is gonna be sweet, i can tell already. i made a rookie mistake, its costing me a lot of money, so please keep your comments somewhat critical and not too rude.

a little fast (45-55mph), mid turn, slowing for a stop sign a little bit up ahead.... had my hand on the brake lever.... had a decent lean going.... and here comes a car on a crossroad to my right. i thought he was gonna pull out and i squeezed too hard. so of course the front end washed out to the right, doin about 40mph when i hit the pavement.... 5 feet later was a curb.... face first into the curb, then my hip, sending me flyin up in the air and tumbling over a sidewalk and through the grass. bike did the same thing.

MY STUPID FRAME SLIDER caught the curb and wacked out the frame bad... which already needed to be replaced. otherwise, there isnt a spot on the bike without a heavy amount of damage. bike is totalled. but im lookin for a frame (one in georgia on ebay for $175), need right handlebar, master cylinder, gonna repair the tail, and streetfighter the bike. possibly sell it and get away from motorcycles. ive never wrecked a car before, maybe ill stick with them.

and of course, i am left with no injuries. as usual. which is BAD, because i havent learned my lesson yet. i got a lil rash where my hip impacted the curb, a cut of my forehead, a sore ankle, and thats about it.

anyways, for your viewing pleasure, here are some pictures.

I respect a guy who pulls out while he still has chips in his hand.

Ok now this is 3 crash threads now? or was it 2, or god forbid even more?

All I can say is you need you seriously consider your riding style and future. Maybe retaking the MSF course isn't a bad idea. I know there's others here who have had a few crashes, but it seems thiers are spaced out over a much longer period of time.

Did the car pull out? or did you end up overreacting for nothing?

BTW thanks for the pics, it's nice to get a first hand view of how people's gear stands up to a crash.

          That really sucks Jason.
Mucked up the new paint an basically destroyed it.
How many payments you got left on it?

You'll get no Flamage from me.

yes, third "major" wreck.... the worst though.

and no, the guy didnt pull out. i overreacted, i squeezed way harder than i had any business doin, mid turn. totally 100% my fault, a rookie mistake.

as far as several wrecks being spaced out... in 4-5 months of riding, ive ridden 10,000 miles. 3 is too many, but i do a lot of riding, and a lot of hard riding. though only the 1st wreck was due to going too fast... this one was just from using too much brake in too hard of a lean.

my gear held up great.... that Scorpion helmet saved my life. it hit a curb at 40mph or so. Frank Thomas leathers got scuffed up bad.... but just a lil rash on my hip, and just a lil on my arm, dunno how. i wasnt wearing my Nitro boots... but my other more multi purpose boots(very tall, leather, with straps) they held up nicely.

Jason dial it back a notch or two and just take it easy for a while once your back on 2 wheels.

As we all know shit happens, and the street can be a dangerous place.

Get the bike fixed up and maybe consider doing a track day, push that kat hard, but do it in a closed enviorment were you have no worries about gravel and cagers and other street riding obsticles.

You can push your bike a lot harder (at least legally) on the track, take that knowledge and use it on the street.

MSF only teaches you how to ride slowly. If he wants to not die or kill anyone else he either needs to stop trying to play I wanna be a GP rider on the street, or go to an actual high preformance riding course.

Even then all the high preformance riding training you get is still a risk on the street because you have cars, curbs, rocks, uneven surface, grease, oil, ice, water, snow, pedestrians, those annoying raised lane reflecters, etc. etc.

It sounds like he is in the twisties, but I don't know of any canyons in Florida. At least the roads down there are really wide. But if he hit a curb, then he is not out in the boondocks so he shouldn't be riding that fast. Range and I both crashed at Deal's Gap, but that is so far from civilization and the only thing to be broke/hurt was Range's wrist and my pride.

                Jason, don't be a

By my count, this is #6 I think... (Hitokiri_Battousai, where are you? Your future best-friend is here in this thread ). Jason, this is getting to be an extremely expensive habit, isn't it? I mean aside from the risks, the costs must be heart-breaking... both in terms of $$$ and in terms of being unable to ride while everything gets repaired... I don't even want to think about what your insurance rate will be next year. But at least you wore gear and it worked as it should have -- and I'm happy you're able to write about it.

Send BraadaJim a PM about a frame for your bike. I know he took possession of SpecialK's inventory, and I think there is a frame in there for you. Remember that in Florida, frame goes with the VIN, so be very careful on what you buy/bid-on/etc -- the VIN status on rebuildable/salvage/etc is kind of unique in Florida and you can easily find a frame that you may never be able to register for the street if you're not careful. Don't want to get caught out.

                  Meanwhile, what happens now:
New bike, same bike/new frame, take a break from riding, etc?

Also, wanted to ask if you were planning on going to the rally with us... I'll be riding up from Tampa, I think Malloc is riding with me, Kat6 is probably also riding with me, Let'sRide is probably meeting up with us at Valdosta for the rest of the run, etc... In your particular case, I would highly (HIGHLY) recommend trailering so that if you go down, you can get the bike home afterwards without issue. Naturally, I'd also highly recommend travel insurance (figure $50 will buy you a million $ med/evac/etc policy).

                  Cheers,

PS - I'm already getting messages about parts on your bike if you want to part it. Malloc wants your rims and a footpeg if you're not planning on rebuilding it.

                    Cheers,

Jason, glad that u are O.K. At least u had your gear on and it worked. Just like Cyber I think u should take a brake. After u get your ride all fixed take a different aproch to riding. I'm not flaming u, but know that it takes years of practice and expirence to build riding skills. Meybe u should ask yourself :
Am I riding above my abilities?
Again I'm not flaming u, just don't want to see u or someone else get hurt.
Good luck with your new project.

hey guys, thanks for all the mostly positive, and appropriately critical comments, and the concern. i honestly dont think that ive been riding beyond my abilities lately.. not after my first wreck. id love to say that i wrecked again from going too fast... but this time i wreck from being a dumbass and gettin on the brakes too much in too much of a lean. it was something that i was taught in the MSF course, and i did try to stand it up a little first, but i had no room. i screwed up, now i gotta pay. and yes, i will be taking a lil break, at least from any kind of hard/sporty riding. just happens to be that i blew a head gasket in my car too, so im out of transportation. real pain in the ass!

And Jason. Cyber, Fred, and me will get the beer at the rally. If there's another wedding reception going on. Oh wait! Not the same spot this year. I'll have plenty anyways. And I share.
