  • Great to be in NC!!

Went for a nice ride today. First nice ride I have been on in about a year or more. With trying to get the family ready to move, days have been busy, but I managed to get an hour today and I took every minute of it to get some miles on the Kat before heading to Alaska. Only thing that would have made it better is if my neighbor that has a Kat could have ridden with me. Also have the wife convinced that I have to "use up" the gas in the tank instead of just draining it for shipment.

Plan on riding again tomorrow to meet a buddy that bought my bass boat to "show him how to use it".

I know all you cold people don't want to read that stuff, but I will be in Alaska on the 13th of this month freezing along with yall anxiously waiting for warm weather.

    Just had to share!!

Going to Fort Richardson, Fort Greely or Fort Wainwright (or you serving at one of the airbases)? Joining the 172nd? I'm curious...

My take on Alaskan duty: Freeze in the winter, boil in the summer. The mosquitos in the summer that put the deep south to shame.

Peace be with you... safe PCS!

Going to Ft. Richardson. Standing up a new unit up there. No, I will not be under the 172nd.

I have some buddies already up there and have been warned of the mosquitos.

Thanks for the safe wishes. I will most definately post up once I get there. Anybody know if there are any other KatRiders in Alaska?

there was one guy up there but i think he moved back to the states.

i think you'll have a lot of fun. i love it up there. when in the service i went up there 4 times ( king salmon, kotzebue, indian mountain, cold bay )
so i got to be in the artic circle - mid state & on the chain. i got to see a bit of the country side but worked mostly, when i met my girl friend ( now wife ) she had moved back from there - lived there a year. her brother & family still live there. we took a big trip up there a bunch of years back taking the train to denali national forest was probably the coolest thing - i haven't been up there for a couple of years - miss the fishing.

the low light winters can be hard but you get to live it up in the summer !
keep your eyes out for the moose ! we will be wanting to see LOTS of pictures !

          enjoy

p.s. deet is not the best thing for you but keeps those pesky biters away.

Man.. today started out pretty good and just got better.

Took off from the house on the Kat (with a dead battery) to meet my buddy that bought my boat to show him the ropes with it. Nice 30 minute ride to get out to the lake. Got to the lake and got the boat in the water. Showed him all the points of launching it, etc. Took me about 20 minutes to get it started since it hadn't been started for about a year, but once she started up she purred like a kitten. Loaded up his wife and two kids and across the lake we went. Showed him how to plane it up and we shot out across the lake like a bullet. I had forgotten just how nice a bass boat with a 150hp motor runs. Went over turning and all that stuff, then it was his turn. After getting him pretty good with it, I decided I needed to head home to my family. We get back to the boat ramp and I ask him if he remembered his jumper cables for my bike... I got a blank stare... : Maybe, just maybe the ride out charged up the battery enough. NOPE!! Well, guess it's time to push start the ol Kat. I head up the gravel hill to the road and start pushing. Got it started and headed home..... thinking a bike ride and a boat ride in the same day is a good day.

I get home to find my wife jumping up and down and dancing in the driveway. I think she is just exagerating daddy being home for the kids that were riding their bikes outside. Not quite... she had just gotten off the phone with the realtor and seems we are about to receive an offer for the full asking price and only 50% closing costs on our house!! Man what a day!! To celebrate we went to Logan's Roadhouse and I had a nice steak! Can't ask for much better days than that.

Well, getting down to the last two days, the wife and I are staying up late looking at houses, scheduling vehicle shipments, scheduling dog shipment, etc.
