  • Passed the MSF basic course!

I just passed the MSF basic safety course today and am going to try and get my license this week. For those who have already taken the DMV written exam.. are the questions similar to those in the MSF exam? I searched the forums as best I could but could not find an anwer.

    Thanks!

Yup, that's usually the case in most states I think. You should be able to track down the book online for your state, but I think for the most part the questions will be very similar.

the course was fun wasn't it? in texas, as it is in MOST places, the msf course qualifies as a waiver for the riding exam. as for the written portion, in my case, there was a mix of things taught in the class as well as things from the book. definitely grab the dmv's book. everything will come out of that. study well.

here in Tennessee if you pass the msf course you don't have to take either the written or riding test at the dmv. all you have to take is the eye exam, pay a fee and you get your endorsement.

Yeah, it was alot of fun. I felt pretty bad though for one of the students in the class. He did well through the whole thing... then dumped the bike in the controlled braking portion of the test. That was it for him.

there were two girls in my class that dumped their bikes during practice, not the final exam. the first decided she would take the class again later. the other girl dropped her's three seperate times, but nearly aced the final. go figure. that acutally kind of worries me. but they say everyone drops it at least once right?

Same thing happened in my class! A woman dumped hers at LEAST 9 times.. probably more.. then finished the class with 4 points total (I had 10 for not looking far enough ahead on the last portion of the test). I think she actually did the best out of all of us. Shrug

In florida, I passed the written and riding test during the MSF course. Then you get a card saying you completed the MSF course. Then alls you have to do is present the card to the DMV and they endorse your license. No extra written or riding tests.
                        What the deuce!?!

I think the rules vary by state. I believe in TX the riding portion is convered by the MSF course completion, but I still have to take the DMV written exam.

the dmv lines in austin are nuts! you being in round rock and williamson county should help a bit. but if you really don't want to wait go to hutto or some other small town nearby that has a driver's license office.

Thanks for the heads up! I visited the Williamson County DMV last week and
the line wrapped out the door.
