  • Home made front wheel stand

It was raining this morning, and I couldn't ride until late afternoon. I used the moring time to make a front wheel stand out of some scrap wood that I have in my garage. It is very easy and cheap

Here is how it looks in use

and here is a pic of my bike after removing the shovel and installing an integrated turn signal

Great job JohnE1000. Thanks for the pictures. I wouldn't have though it would be that simple, but that's all that should be needed.

Chriskat1100, you saying you wouldn't trust if you made it, but if someone with good carpentry skills made it, you'd trust it?

What's the worst that could happen if it failed? Your bike is already on the centerstand, so there is not a lot of weight on the front wheel anyway. If it broke, your front tire would just fall 1 1/2 inches or so to the floor. The bike shouldn't be at risk for rolling forward, backward, or falling to the side.

Perhaps cutting a little notch where the forks would rest would make sure it wouldn't wobble or anything ....

That's what I was thinking. Just cut the notch to fit the end of fork. Maybe a stop on the outside of the stand to keep the forks from sliding off one way or the other as well.

What could possibly go wrong? If this stand fall apart, the front wheel will drop from 2" hi to the ground. This stand is not to be used while working on the bike, it is to be used in winter time, to left the front wheel off the ground. Also, becasue the bike is on the center stand, most of the wieght are in the center. There is, veritually, nothing to very low wieght on those pieces of wood.

But if something happens and it drops to the ground forcefully enough , it COULD roll forward right off the centerstand . Go ahead , ask me how I know this .
