  • i ate it #2

hey guys. some of you know, some of you dont. one week ago today, i ate it! i was in the left lane of a one way street, coming up to a 2 way cross road in Tampa... a car was slightly ahead of me in the center lane. i was doing the speed limit, 35 or 40mph, the car slightly faster. as we approached the green traffic light, the guy in the center lane made a left turn, from the center lane. the car crossed directly in my path and i reacted quickly on the brakes. unfortunately i locked both rear and front tires, and slid a bit... the bike went down within 3 feet of hitting the side of the car.

the bike and i both went down hard. bike got a lot of scuffs and scratches, cracked the tail plastic, and cracked the left engine cover. i went down on both wrists hard, my left hip, and left foot. luckily, i was wearing full gear and didnt get a scratch. the bike had to be trucked home though.

the driver of the car did not stop. luckily, i had two friends right behind me, who chased him down. they told him he wrecked me, and he still kept going. finally they got an officer to pull him over, and later escort him back to the scene. even with witnesses, he denied the fact that he turned from the center lane, but still recieved a ticket for it.

i talked to the driver yesterday. he seems to be a decent guy, made an honest mistake, which he was able to admit to me. said he wasnt familar with the road, and thought he was in the far left lane, but was in the center lane. anyways, after admitting that to his insurance company... they are issuing me a check for my damages... which the adjuster estimated to be $2550. that number is high, but im not complaining.

so i should recieve the check next week. the bike is in the paint shop now gettin some custom paint work done... all the plastic was repaired. otherwise ill be gettin new tires, exhaust, maybe sprockets, and id like to get some fancy chrome stuff. so give me your ideas folks, i wanna make my kat one of a kind and be an eye catcher!

and about me... im recovering. my wrists are feeling better, and my foot is finally done hurting i hope. im sick of limping around. but i will be purchasing sport boots (the boots i wear now work well, but i need the extra support). but yea, my jacket, gloves.. and riding pants... saved my skin... again!

I have to agree, use the money for gear and have someone or attempt to repair the bike your self.

Glad to hear your okay Jason...bikes can easily be fixed/replaced...it's not too easy with people...

I got in a accident on my bike (hit from behind by a speeding truck...hit and run, never caught him) about 8 months ago...my first accident in 3 years of riding and it really freaked me out...took me 6 months before I got back on a bike, it was very hard the first few days.

Wishing you and all the other KatRider's the best... 8)

Actually, I suspect that number is low. I hope you got some outside bids as well from a couple Suzuki dealerships to compare to, and included the cost of your gear, towwing, reasonable rental reimbursement, etc.

Perforated leather. JR Sonic or Blaster are available in perforated, for example. Most of the time that I ride, that's what I wearing. A bit miserable standing still at lights in the summer, but as long as you're moving, it's tolerable even mid-July.

                  Cheers

Yeah , suually the ins company will pay for your damaged gear as well . Maybe you should make some phone calls . And maybe get those NRC covers , because your bike hitting the ground sounds like it's becoming a habit ....

I saw the title and though "shit not again"

Glad to hear this are worked out. I take it he is being declaered at fault so you won't get dinged with an increase on your insurance.

Perforated leather is great, I have the perforated speedmaster pants and I wear them all season with out problem. Your gonna be hot in them at a stop sign on a hot day, but once your moving the are quite comfortable on a hot day.

Alpinestar also sells some perforated leather. If your happy with textile everyone seems to have a ventilated textile jackets and pants too. JR and fieldsheer come to mind.

Man talk about bad luck..that really sux man..but glad u made it thru ok. Depending on how ur gear faired in the incident, I'd highly consider replacing that as the others mentioned.

I'd also add up every single penny and then talk to the insurance company again and see if they will raise the amount of the check. I never hurts to ask.
