  • Bought a '99 Katana that was lowered...

Well the bike was lowered and the previous owner cut alittle of the kick stand off but the bike still is almost standing straight up with the kick stand down.. So my question is, to everyone else that has lowered their bike, what did you do about the kick stand?
Also, the bike didnt come with a center stand so could I get a stock one or would it hit the road on bumps? ( from being so low)

    Thanks

Well , you COULD get a centerstand and put it on there , and if it DOES hit the road from the bumps , you'll know your bike is WAY too low . I imagine getting it UP on the centerstand could be tough if it's too low , too . So uh , you LIKE it lowered ? Maybe you could return the thing to normal , Thnat would solve some problems ....

The big question is: HOW was it lowered? Did they cut and reweld the links or did they install new links? If new ones were put on, maybe they have multiple holes to adjust height? The front probably just has the forks pulled up higher. Easy enough to correct that deal....

So far as the kick stand goes, lots of time people just heat and bend them.

When I first bought my Bandit, it was lowered so far the rear tire had ate through the undertail and I could not turn right on it. First thing I did was restore back to proper ride height.

If you want to return it to stock, OEM stock dogbones (suspension links) run about $25 for the pair. Easy way to improve handling and clearance, provided you don't need the shorter height.

Well the guy we bought it from was like 5'6 or 5'7 but I think its pretty nice looking lowered! The brand was Voodoomoto or something like that and he gave us the OEM links. Another question is how to adjust the rear suspension? Is that special spanner the only thing that will twist the adjustment knob or could I use something else?
          Thanks

the barbaric way is to get a screwdriver and a hammer and gently tap it round, another poor way of doing it... is to use a monkey wrench, dunno if you yanks call it tho.. one of these!!

            cheers.joe.

Before you go trying to use some make-do tool, look under the seat -- if the stock tool kit is still in the rear, by the tail light, and has all it's parts, the adjustment tool is in it. It looks like a crescent moon with a handle attached.

                Cheers
