  • Stealership Problems- Kinda long

Ok, as some of you know I lost the oil drain plug while riding around town- lucky I turned off the bike before any damage was done to the engine. Since I dont have the time or the knowledge, I took the bike to the Suzuki dealership so they could change the oil, adjust the valves, swap oil pans, new plugs, K&N filter and swap the exhaust. Not too big a deal right? So I drop the bike off the first week of September. It takes them two weeks to get to the bike, not that big a deal for me they are a busy shop. They start on my bike and call me to let me know that I need the oil pickup to work with the new oil pan. Ok, order it and pay for overnight shipping. Out of seven parts, six arrive the next day. The part that is missing is the main body of the oil pickup. Well cant do anything till it gets there. They move on to other bikes. End of next week the part arrives, they will get to it on that sat. Its been a month now. Tuesday comes, I stop by to see how its going- THE FUKEN MECHANIC WORKING ON MY BIKE QUIT AND TOOK SOME OF MY PARTS. I am an unhappy camper! But they told me that they would get my parts and that I wouldnt have to pay for shipping. HUH?!? Why do I need to pay for shipping? So they get my parts, and the bike sits for two more weeks (the whole time I am there every other day, trying to get them on my bike). FINALLY, they get to my bike and the oil pickup that they ordered was THE WRONG DAMN PART. They put in a order for the right part but did it under standard shipping. I paid for overnight to get my bike done, not to wait for parts. But I will wait it out. The part was to come in this week, but instead I got a call- the part I am waiting for is on national backorder. The hell with this, it has been two months. I tell them to put the old parts back on and get me out (this was at 3pm). By 5:30pm I have my bike back in running order. WTH?!? I dont get it. I want to write to Suzuki and tell them what has happened but dont know if I should. What do you all think?
    Thanks for reading my vent!

Wow, I thought I had a problem with my bike getting fixed in a timely fashion. Definitely complain to Suzuki!

that is realllllyyyyyy bad, i would be extremely mad to if they took that long on my bike. Then having them ship it ground thats just wrong, i would be writing to Suzuki or the head guy at that dealer.

        (A) Yes, you need to contact Suzuki and let them know of this experience. Dealerships are awarded (limit 1 per 350,000 population or every 25 miles or some such), and there may be someone with a far better staff and better customer service waiting in the wings to be awarded the Suzuki authorization for your area. You may also find that Suzuki insures that your problems are resolved in haste to ensure that your future buying decisions aren't jaded against Suzuki's in general.

        (B) I would never use that shop again -- for any mechanical work. If they charged you anything up to this point, I hope you paid via credit card -- contact the card company and ask them for the forms to specifically decline the charges. Take the time to fill out the forms and submit them. Obviously you shouldn't have to pay for gross incompetence. If you paid by any other means, ask for a full refund from management and the owners, and if it's not immediately given, go visit your local small claims court.

        (C) Why did the oil drain plug fall out? Who did the last oil change on the bike before that? If the answer is this same shop, then you have a valid claim in small claims court -- which you might have anyway strictly for the inconvenience of being out of the bike for two months with nothing to show for it. If the oil drain plug was your doing, suck it up and just never go back to these guys.

        (D) Learn to do the work yourself instead and never get caught out like this again. If a dealership doesn't get to my bike within 1 week, I'm history -- but I also know to pre-order parts ahead of time.

        Cheers,

You are very patient my friend. If I were in your situation, I wouldn't wait more than a week.

When they say my bike will be ready the next day, Im calling the evening before just to make sure.

Most definately take that to the big wigs at suzuki, thats completely unacceptable!

The problem that I have is Lubbock is a small town and they are the only Suzuki dealership in a 200 mile area.

Dont know why the oil plug fell out, when I bought the bike the guy had stated he just changed the oil and it still looked good when I checked it (never removed the plug though)

No one mentioned the oil pickup, and when I looked at the diagrams I never saw the difference. It was something that I never thought that would be different. But, when I did find this out I paid extra to get the parts quick.

Anyone know the contact number and mailing number for Suzuki USA?
              Thanks!

Whenever I have my bike worked on I make certain to explain to them that I get all of my parts back. Stealerships seem to think that just because you have something removed, and a new upgrade put on that the replaced part is theirs. Not so. It was on my bike, it is my OEM part. I am telling you, they are a shady bunch of business people.

                        +1

Even if there is a core charge I still want to see the old part before they send it away. I know in some states this is a requirement.

                          Crazy..
I would also place a phone call to the manger of
                          the shop, or a letter.
Also ask him who the "sector" manager is..
(The guy from Suzuki who handles dealerships in the region, Texas or South west etc.)
Don't count on the Dealership to pass on your complaint and don't count on Suzuki either..
Not that I have feeling of mistrust but I am
in the customer service industry.. For the cost of a few stamps/ phone calls, it is worth letting everyone know how poorly you were treated. And you were
very poorly treated. Belive me Suzuki USA doen't care that this guy is the only dealer for 200 miles or 2000 miles.. Also you just let Katriders, (potentially) 2000 people, mostly Suzuki riders, with contacts to other Suzuki riders internationally how you got shafted.. I would make that known as well.

Last year when I bought my bike, there was a defect in the paint on the tank. The dealership promised a new tank and signed a paper stating that, but after a couple months, no tank. Called them up, got several different stories, one guy claimed it had been ordered, another guy said he could not find an order for it anywhere but he would take care of it. Couple more months, no tank. I had not sent in the survey from Suzuki for a reason, so filled it out stating the problem, sent it it. Before I knew it the owner of the dealership called, aplogized, offered free merchandize, etc....Point is, I got my new tank and letting the higher ups know sometimes does work.
