Do you guys stop pumping gas when it automatically stops or do you top off a little more. Seems to me that if i dont top off i never get full tank. My brothers YZF never needs to be topped off for sum reason. How bout you guys??

It's the shape of the tank and the size of the venting to let the rest of the air out. Once you get to the bottom of the filler neck on the Kat, it takes a while to level out. Whether you choose to fill the rest in little gulps is up to you.

top it off as much as you can..might as well get every last drop in u can, especially w/ prices these days. remember too.. if u fill up the bike while sitting on it; becareful when you go to put the nozzel back onto the gas pump, that rocking of the bike can make it splash out all over the place.

conversely, if the bike is on the side stand, u'll get just a tad less, filled up, than when its completely upright.

The owner's manual says not to fill it above the bottom of the filler neck (about 1.5 inches from the tank lock).

Liability concerns. They don't want you splashing gasoline (a known carcinogenic, plus it's a flamable solvent) all over you, the paint, the seat, and the ground.

I fill to the bottom of the filler neck while the bike is on its sidestand. My friend with a ZX7R had his gas bubble out one time all over his crotch and burn the crap out of his [CENSORED].

If it's the last time you're filling it up for the winter, put the fuel stabilizer in just before you start pumping, and then fill it all the way up (including waiting for it to settle). Ideally, if you have to drive it home or to storage afterwards, top it off with a gas can of fresh fuel after you park it. You want as little or zero air in there (less air = less air for condensation to form in = less chance of rust in the bottom of the tank over the winter).
