  • QUICK BIKE WASH-UP....

Any of you guys and gals with toddlers might try this:

After a ride I use Baby Wipes to wipe off the dirt and crud, and finish off with a clean cloth. If you do it consistently after a ride so the gook doesn't cake up, it works pretty good.

    Any other quick wash-up tricks?

Baby wipes work perfectly for visors as well. I keep a small container of them and a small clean cloth under my seat. Get a big bug in the middle of the visor and it is a 30 second fix (including removing the seat).

And it doesn't hurt iridium visors either (I have a nice blue one).

I never thought of using baby wipes. I just have some Honda Polish that I use along with some spray on bike wash made by turtle wax.

one of the last rides I was on I got my visor squeegeed at the gas station (while still wearing the helmet).
got the bug juice off - but I don't recomend it - had soapyness in the groove of the helmet for half the day.

I do that all the time ! Sometimes 2 or 3 times a ride , depending on how long I'm out !

Now THAT is information I've been waiting to hear. I've been wanting a iridium shild for my helmet but didn't want to spend the money for fear that it would get screwed up the first time I cleaned it off.

Woo hoo!!!! I helped someone :smt026

When washing it properly, I just fill a sink with quite warm water (almost hot, but I don't want to hurt my delicate hands ) and normal dishwashing liquid. Then pop in the visor and leave it to soak for a few minutes. Then using a nice clean soft cloth (new one would be best) wipe the visor.

My wife and I both have iridium visors, and not a single scratch or mark on them.

Old trick, cheaper than baby wipes:

Soak a paper towel in water, lay it across your helmet and visor, and let it sit for up to an hour. Then wipe off the bugs & crud. Bugs tend to stick by virtue of being dehydrated (after splatting!), so rehydrating them makes them soft again and permits you to take them off without any significant effort.

                              As for the bike itself:
Same trick as for the helmet works on the headlight and windshield, minimizing any scratching & scrubbing to clean them off.
Oil the chain when you get back from your ride, while the chain is still warm from use. The oil will penetrate better, and excess will drip off before you ride again. IMHO, avoid WD40 because of the stoddard's cleaning solvent (about 45 - 50% by volume), and use a high quality spray oil.
If you have a custom (leather) seat, tuck it inside a large (55 gal) trash bag and snap it back into place before washing or rinsing off the bike. It will keep the excess water from soaking into your underseat areas, while still protecting the leather from the water and chemicals.

                              Cheers
