  • Need advice to remove a very stubborn valve cover...

I'm slowly working on my 95 GSX750F project bike. I'm an experienced 80's GS guy, but this "newer" katana is a different animal than my 81 GS1100E.

I've run into stuck valve covers before, but was always able to loosen them up. This one however is not budging! The bike has 15K on the clock & I'm betting no one has ever checked the valve clearances.

Do you guys have any tips or special ways to get a stuck valve cover off besides prying it off and risking damage to the sealing surfaces?

Any advice is welcome - Thanks Mike

Ummm, there is a hidden bolt just below the oil cooler. I'll bet it's sealed down with sealant.

If the cover bolt you're talking about is the same as the shank'ed bolt on the opposite side, then I've already removed that... didn't see any others.

Yeah, I can see some red glue-like stuff along the seal. Same crap that was holding the carb diaphragms down. Is sealant supposed to be used?

Very little and only at the cam ends of the cover.

Not to be all 'Captain Obvious', but...Did you look at the manual or exploded diagram where it shows the valve cover and all the bolts?

If your sure all the bolts are out a rubber mallet or plastic hammer lightly tap around the cover this sometimes will brake a stubborn cover of but gently you will hear as it starts to give way
