  • Air Box Install

I am trying to install my air box and I cannot get it to stay on. I can get the boots over the carbs. I can tighten the clamps, but even when fully tight, he air box just pops off.

I installed with the filter out and stuck my hand through, to make sure the boots are all the way and they are.

Clamps are fine. Not bent or damaged in any way. The boots seem a little hard, but not terribly so. I would replace the boots, but on my 89 Kat 750, they appear integral with the air box.

    Ideas, alternatives? All are welcome.

on my 97 katana 600 the boots came off I took them all off, and re-glued them in to seal them better. I would assume the clamps are either stretched out, or not the correct ones.

My boots seem fixed to the box. I can tighten the clamps to where the won't go on the carbs. However, when I have the boots on the carbs, they pop off even when fully tightened. I will get new clamps and see what happens, but I am not hopeful.

Edit: I see on the fiche that the boots do come off. They look fused to mine. New ones are f%#king expensive.

What I did was, I spread a small amount of Formula V racing tire rubber conditioner on the boots. I figured, if it damages the boots, I am no worse off than I am now. If it works, I am ahead of the game. I bought new screws for my clamps, this morning, to make sure I can tighten them well. I also bought some narrow width hose clamps, just to see if they make any difference.

I know some people have used RTV inside of the boots to create a soft seal, but I am reluctant to go that route.

Update: After applying the Formula V to the boots and letting sit for 24 hours, the have become much more pliable. I rubbed some more on today. Hopefully they will be sufficiently pliable to reinstall, today or tomorrow.
