  • New 600 owner just getting back into riding.

Just picked this up today, 06 600 with 12k mikes in excellent shape.

Rode a lot when I was younger, gixxers, ninjas, cbrs etc.

A few years ago I bought a new KLR650, it was fun but not what I was after.

Last year tried a Vstar, great bike but again, not what I was after.

Hope to have got it right with this one- looking for a good sport cruiser, something steady for longer trips and quick enough for a little fun in the turns.

Tons to learn and will be asking a million questions thanks in advance.

    Welcome to KR

Glad you found a bike you like, throw an R6 shock on the rear if you plan on pushing it hard. Its a cheap investment and a huge improvement over the stock suspension set up. Check my signature if you would like more information on how to convert it.

That only fits a pre Kat but, a suspension upgrade is the most bang for the buck.

Hey thanks guys- I'm sure this is an amazingly stupid question but does "pre" mean pre 98?

Genuinely not a complete imbecile (usually) just new to this world, will have lots more questions along the way.

Don't plan on really pushing it too hard, would love to get a couple track days in for the experience/training, other than that really just want to enjoy a fun bike.

Glad to have picked it up in the off season, need to figure out a maintenance schedule/procedure, go through the fluids/filters/plugs etc, and start looking at luggage options and maybe a Corbin seat for the boss.

Pre = before 98 (design change).

Rebuilt suspension will make the bike COMETELY different in a very nice way. Forks you can do yourself if you're mechanically inclined. Racetech springs meant for your weight, and valve emulators if you can afford them. You can buy a post 750 (as in 98-06) shock and have it rebuilt, and revalved/resprung for your weight if you choose. The post 750 and the 1100 shocks are the only kat ones that are rebuidable so far as I know. There's a member on here (TMod) that runs his own suspension shop, does great work.

Other than that, the Kat is a very solid and comfy bike. Heavy and not the fastest, but hey, more to love.

                Welcome aboard.

Nice looking Kat, they do look great in Black. With such low mileage check the Date codes on your tires!!!. I upgraded mine when I had it with Ohlins springs up front and a ohlins shock on the back. Suspension upgrades while pricey will be felt when you push harder.

Sold mine after a nearly trouble free 116,000 kms (72k miles), only think I had to replace was a starter motor. Numerous rides down to Deals Gap (1100 miles each way), comfy enough for long rides and can be pushed in the twisties to have tons of fun.
