  • Fuel Gauge works.... most of the time

So my fuel gauge will work perfectly fine for 99% of the time then randomly it will just go to empty even when i have a full tank. Is this a wire problem or what do yall think?

Sounds like the wire is becoming disconnected. There are two bullet connectors which come from the fuel-level-sender on the bottom of the fuel tank. On my bike these go on the left side of the carburetors. Make sure they're connected good and not corroded. If you unplug these, the gauge will go down to Empty.
I check them every time I take off my gas tank to do work on the bike.

When mine did the same thing it was a lose ground wire where it connects to the tank.

When I got my bike bike mine didnt work at all.
A quick bit of solder on the wire and all is good.

        Check the connections.

Took the bike apart and found exposed wires maybe that's the problem

Yup.... If it grounds to the frame that will mess it up.

Depends on how bad it is.
Personally id put a new wire in so you never have to worry about it again.

so found the problem. it was a connector up behind the gauges. looks like a pin shorted and someone put a screw into the connector to hold it into a certain place so the wires would work. i must have bumped that "non permanent" fix and now ill just cut those wires and solder them together.

whats a good place to 1. buy the wiring for the full gauge... the part that connects to the tank. 2. complete wiring.
