    Just saying hi,
haven't looked at much on the site yet but that's what I'll likely spend most of this evening doing, so far what I've seen Of the site looks quite good.
I should probably admit that although I am an owner of a 1982 katana, it's in need of repair and I'm not quite a good enuff mechanic to fix it myself so it's sitting in limbo waiting, it's waiting to see if I can find a mechanic to fix it or if I'm just going to sell it or maybe even part it out to help a few Kat owners fix theirs. It is a beautiful bike but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost of repair. I was cruising down a freeway and it just seemed to shut off, after looking it over I found that the counter weights for the timing advance broke off and dissapeared on the freeway. The timing cover wasn't on it when it happened. Other then the engine issue it is still insanely beautiful, even with the aftermarket engine fairings. Should I sell or repair? How about a poll? Or better yet, point me to an honest mechanic and I'll let him decide for me when he gives a repair cost estimate, lol. I've never seen another with these fairings, until I saw one on your site. As soon as I figure out how, I'll post a pic, it may change minds about deciding if it's worth fixing or if it should be parted out.
Thanx in advance for helping me decide

    Welcome to Katriders ...
Go for it, what are you going to do, break it more than it already is. Grab a manual some tools and dig in, it's the best thing you can do FOR yourself. You'll know that bike inside and out, so when it breaks down your able to trace the problem and fix it yourself. There is pride in that... There are some members here that can help you in a jam, and have questions. Besides that the early KATs are cool as hell....

        Welcome to KatRiders.
I am with 92 on this, just grab some wrenches and get her running again. Love them old school kats.

          Welcome!
As I doubt you'll be able to find a mech with experience working on similar bikes, I gotta agree. I'd agree even if you could find one though - most active members here turn their own wrenches so we're biased.

          Pics please!

I am more then willing to twist the wrenches on it but getting into the engine internals has me a bit freaked out. When I got the bike it was mostly taken apart and in multiple boxes, I simply took each part out of he boxes and made sure it was OK and then made each part shiny (or unshiny in some cases) and then put the part on, one by one. So I can easily do everything outside the engine but not inside the engine, unfortunately it's inside that has the issue. I've tried to load a pic but I just keep getting a "failed to upload" message. I'll try again later today if I can get to a computer instead of using my phone..... stay tuned for pic of very sweet looking but broken scooter, lol.

Not as difficult as it looks. The manuals do a pretty good job of explaining things, just read through that section a couple times before you start. That way you know the procedure.
