  • Hello there NEW Kat rider.

Just bought an 06, it's my second bike (first being an 08 R6 that my cousin technically owned) but it's been some years since i've rode.

It's a little weird going from an R6 to the Katana, but I am excited don't get me wrong. It's just a bit heavier than I'm use to, but definitely more comfortable.

Ran into an issue pulling the fuel tank though, would love some help on that haha.

    Welcome!

Gonna have to be more specific about the tank - where ya hung up?
There's 2 lines connected to the petcock - 1 feeds fuel to the carbs, the other supplies the vacuum to open the petcock.
There's a drain line that connects ~center bottom of the tank.
And there's an emissions line if your bike had CA smog equipment, attaches bottom brake side towards the front.

There's 2 bolts that attach it by the air cleaner.
There's also some grommets that attach to the fairings. Pull the fairings for easy tank removal.

Welcome to KatRiders. I hope you come to appreciate the Katana for the bike it is, it's something of a renaissance moto.

          Thanks for all the welcomes!

I didn't want to be too specific in case this was the wrong area to post about this, but.

When I was going to clean it out, i removed the rear bolts and pulled it up a bit so that I could disconnect everything. I successfully disconnected the drain line, but I can't reach the lines to the petcock and the tank won't budge.

Again, only experience with pulling an 08 r6 tank so I'm guessing I went about this wrong. Decided to just reconnect everything and put it back until my friend comes over, but after connecting everything I can't get the tank back into it's original position.

It's not really dire, my friend is pulling it for me Sunday but I kind of feel silly and would like to know how i messed up.

Check on the right side, the wires for the fuel gauge are probably holding it down, there should be a connector you can disconnect around the frame area.
