  • Hello

Hello fellow riders. New here new bike rider. Just got my permit, and punched a 2001 katana 750 as a first bike. Went to pick up bike bike started with no problem has its few nicks and scratches. No big deal since I would possibly be adding a few more. My problem here when I got it home it does not start. It did run a little funny before buying it but have read so much with these carburetor so getting so filthy that they have to be cleaned out frequently. I have a question is it hard for me to take them apart and cleaning them putting it back together and having it run fine or is it much more then that?

    Hey, welcome to KR

Carb cleaning is a little more on the involved side. Honestly, if it started the other day and won't now, I would think it was something simple that a new rider just wouldn't know about. For future reference though, check out carbs 102 in the wiki (upper left) - it's a detailed how to for cleaning.

As far as possible reasons for not starting - check the kill switch (red switch on the right hand control pod) is it in the run position?

Do you have the sidestand up, the bike in neutral, and the clutch pulled in?

You can also try jumping the sidestand safety switch and the clutch safety switch - they are common no start culprits.
