Hey everyone. My names Josh, just got a 94 gsxf600. Ive been riding for 10months now and this is my 3rd bike. Ha. I got my permit last august, got a 82 xs400 for 250 to learn on. And it was fun, looked great, rode fine, but was kinda slow, so sold that for 700, found a 92 seca550 for 350, had carb issues, didnt wanna deal with it(didnt know how), rode fine, looked ok, still not what I liked, sold it for 700.
Now just last week I found this katana for sale for 500, talked them down to 400. Said it ran and just needed a tune up. 12,000 on it, missing lower fairing, left mirror and the windshield.clean title. Well after I found out a couple plug wires were bad, fixed those, find out it would crank and try to start after draining bowls and fresh gas, I realize its only firing one cylinder, pull the new plugs, only the third was getting fuel.
After going through the 14000+ threads to look for the issues, I find out I now need to learn how to do carbs. Hours and hours later of reading and reading, I tore apart the carbs, green dry crud, clogged jets and floats/pins.. cleaned those out without messing with the settings, put the carbs back in, primed it for 30secs... it started!!! Had to mess around with the idle but it runs and, damn, its fast, and fun as hell. So now, I have a road worthy bike that I think I might keep for a bit.
Sorry for my first post being long, but now you know how I came about getting this bike and with using this site, basically taught myself how to redo carbs
