  • Help...

    Hey all,

Need some help here. My bike was running great no issues at all until this weekend. I installed a R6 shock which is not the issue. My bike starts right up no issues in neutral, but as soon as I put it in gear shuts off. So I figured it was the kick stand kill switch, well I have tried bypassing that switch and same thing happens. Bike will not starts while its in gear. I need help all!! PLEASE any suggestions. Oh and no it's not the clutch cable.

Sounds like the sidestand safety switch or the wiring to it. Have you actually tested it or did you just bypass it, hoping it would start?

Did you bypass it circuit open or circuit closed?

I did not test it, I actually just bypassed hoping it would start, like I said it's fine in neutral, first gear gets me nothing though.

I also tried bypassing it open and closed, still shuts off either way going into gear.

You might want to check the wire and any connection points to it.

Kickstand safety switch..got 2 options u can replace the spring or cut the wires splice thrm together..just remember that it is a safety feature so always check to see if stand is up

And remember to check the wires fully..mine had a short in it just before it goes into the wir8ng harness so i had to cut it way back

I will check check the wire all the way back, I know that's what it has to be there is nothing else! Driving me crazy especially after working all night to mod in the new shock (which I highly recommend doing btw!!!) I know the kick stand spring is bad just haven't had a chance to go out and get a new one.

There is a high chance that it got messed up somewhere along the lines when replacing the shock, I will let you guys know what it ends up being (fingers crossed it's the stupid wire). The guy who had it before me had this bike all jacked up, mismatched bolts everywhere, twist ties holding the fairings together (yes twist ties, like on bread not zip ties) so I am revamping the entire thing!! Thanks for the help hopefully I can get it fixed, not much longer to ride here in Ohio!!

Kickstand not engaging the switch vary rarely is the springs... It's usually wear on the stand it's self, and it's loose. This allows the spring to pull it into the center of the bike when up, and that is just enough to not press the plunger on the switch enough.

A simple .2-.5mm shim between the kickstand and frame will tighten it right back up so that it works properly.

with things like this its quite simple...either open circuit or closed. Meaning the wires need to remain connected or disconnected to trick it to think the switch is still operational...basically like a light switch...on or off. If touching the wires doesn't do it then there has to be a break in a wire or short not completing the loop
